GWAR Frontman and Co-Star of "Holliston" Passes Away at 50
It is a sad day in the both the music and horror communities. Lead singer of horror-themed metal band GWAR, Dave Brockie aka Oderus Urungus, was found dead on Sunday evening in his Richmond, VA home. No word on cause of death is available at this time. He was 50 years old.
Brockie started the band in 1984, starting on guitar but soon moving to lead vocals. Over the years, GWAR released 13 studio albums with Brockie.
In 2012, after a brief stint as an "Intergalactic Correspondent" on FOX News, Brockie became a regular cast member on the FEARnet sitcom, Holliston, starring as his Oderus character. The series, also starring Adam Green (Hatchet, Frozen) and Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Knights of Badassdom), featured Oderus as Adam's imaginary friend who lived in the closet. Most of his on-screen appearances were with ONLY Green. Being an avid GWAR fan, Green had developed a tight personal friendship with Brockie.
With Holliston currently on an indefinite hiatus, and now with the death of a cast member, the future of the show is uncertain. Before Brockie's death, Green and Lynch had both repeatedly claimed that they want to continue the show.
(On a personal note, I think that they both know that Brockie would want them to continue, and he would likely say so with several insults and threats.)
GWAR has not yet discussed the future of the band with the media. A mere three years ago, the band suffered the death of their guitarist Cory Smoot aka Flattus Maximus. Brockie was the only remaining original member.
