Carrie Fisher's Daughter Cast In Star Wars: Episode VII
Even though Star Wars: Episode VII seems to be storming ahead with filming (and injuring) its principle stars, there's still plenty of time for more casting announcements.
The news coming out of Latino Review, is that Bille Lourd, the daughter of Princess Leia actress Carrie Fisher, has also grabbed a role in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. Currently, this is the only information we're receiving, with Latino Review accepting it could simply be a cameo - although they provide no evidence to confirm this.
Bille Lourd certainly doesn't have a large filmography of titles under her belt, indeed, she doesn't even have an IMDB page. With this in mind, it makes sense that she could only be appearing in a small role, although it's also worth noting that Carrie Fisher herself was a complete unknown before being cast in Star Wars: Episode IV.
Furthermore, with Carrie as her mother, and Bryan Lourd - the Managing Director and Co-Chairman of Creative Arts Agency - as her father, some good ol' fashioned Hollywood nepotism could have landed her a bigger role.
Here, in the interest of pure speculation, are three roles she could potentially be playing.
Young Princess Leia
Although Bille Lourd might not have a role in an Oscar winner on her résumé, she does have one major advantage: she looks quite a bit like a young version of her mother. This, therefore, opens up the possibility that she could play a young version of Leia in a flashback - or, I suppose, some kind of old holographic communication. Personally, this seems the most likely answer to her casting.
There is also a more sinister possibility. With Leia as a Jedi in the post-Return of the Jedi world, it makes sense that if she were to die, she'd return as a force ghost - like her father. Also like her father (in the re-mastered original trilogy DVDs) she could also return as a younger version of herself. This is of course complete speculation, especially considering she hasn't been killed off in the expanded universe, although the new movie trilogy may not follow this strictly.
Jaina Solo Fel
Of course, another possibility is that Lourd could use her family looks to play Leia and Han's ass-kicking, name-taking Jedi daughter, Jaina Solo. The gifted pilot, mechanic and Jedi forms a large part of the expanded Star Wars universe with the character going on countless adventures in her war against the Second Imperium and her evil twin brother. Indeed, her Star Wars Wiki article is over 51,000 words - giving you an insight into how important this character is.
However, there are a few things counting against Lourd in this regard, most saliently that such a big role would no doubt require a more experienced young actress. Considering the young brunette actress, Daisy Ridley, has already been cast in an unconfirmed role in Star Wars: Episode VII, I would gamble she is more likely to play Jaina than Lourd.
Tenel Ka Djo
If we take as read that Ridley, as the more experienced actress, will play Jaina Solo, what else is left for Lourd? Well, according to rumors, the Star Wars team are still waiting to cast a second female lead, which has been described as a "second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit." The character of Tenel Ka Djo could potentially fit this description, while she also looks a bit like Lourd.
Furthermore, Tenel Ka's expanded universe storyline is also intricately linked with that of Jaina and her brother Jacen, with the trio training and subsequently fighting together. In fact, Tenel Ka eventually falls in love with Jacen and the pair have a child together. With the above rumors also suggesting the second female role could start small, but grow in later movies, it's not entirely outside the realms of possibility that this is Tenel Ka.
Of course, having anyone other than Carrie Fisher's own daughter to play her onscreen daughter when her real daughter is cast in another role which isn't actually her on-screen daughter (confused yet?) just seems a bit counter-intuitive to me. Don't you think?
What do you think? What role do you imagine her playing?
