Deadpool Movie: Ryan Reynolds Leaked Footage Was GREAT!

by Posted on ⋅ Last edit on

The Deadpool movie has been stuck in limbo for what feels like an eternity, but when the Leaked Footage emerged of Ryan Reynolds voicing the "merc with a mouth", Deadpool fans everywhere were thinking to themselves - This could be IT!

Since then, however, we've had few updates on Marvel craziest, bloodiest, most anarchic hero - but there are a few good reasons why this movie would make TOTAL sense!

Reynolds claimed back in October that he would not partake in the movie if it was PG-13; since Deadpool without gore is like Turner without Hooch, or Michael Bay movies without a grinding sense of despair.

The problem with this, of course, is that for a studio like 21st Century Fox, the under-17 demographic is all important. The biggest superhero movies of past years have all been PG-13 - Man of Steel, Iron Man 3 and Captain America, to name a few.

But we're still holding out hope, and here's 3 reasons why Fox need a change of heart:

1) It will bring in the big $$$

Screenwriter Rhett Reese wrote a script for the Deadpool movie way back in 2010, after which it was leaked online. The script was violent, foul-mouthed, and everything Deadpool was meant to be.

Funnily enough, it wasn't greenlit.

But since then, Reese has been campaigning to get the film into production. On Aug 7 this year, he tweeted:

Over 50,000 fans ultimately responded, all wanting the movie to happen as badly as Reese.

In other words, the consumer demand is there. And people would pay to see this movie even if it takes another 10 years to make.

2) THAT Ryan Reynolds Deadpool test footage

A few weeks ago less than two minutes of CGI test footage that Reese and Blur Studios produced with Ryan Reynolds was leaked online.

The quality is pretty poor, but the vision is not.

It shows Reynolds wise-cracking, breaking the fourth wall, before dispatching some bad guys in the way Deadpool only can. And it's fantastic.

While test footage is just that - a test - if it's anything to go by, an R-Rated Deadpool movie would be sensational.

3) It has legs

I will admit that the reasoning behind Fox's fear of making an R-Rated superhero movie is not unfounded, but there is plenty of evidence to suggest that taking such a risk might pay off.

Take the case of Kick-Ass - a comic book adaptation that no-one wanted to touch, and which showed an 11 year-old Chloe Moretz calling beefy guys "c**ts" and murdering anyone who stood in her way.

The controversy around Kick-Ass proved to be a good thing; it more than tripled its budget at the box-office, and received critical acclaim.

The buzz led to a sequel, a potential third instalment, and proved that comics can be re-imagined without alienating audiences.

If the same logic were to be applied to Deadpool - which not only has a huge fanbase but a hunky leading man attached to it - there's no telling what might happen.

For now, we can only hope that Deadpool's sideline as a Robin Thicke impersonator takes off:
