Will Scoot McNairy play Jimmy Olsen in Batman V Superman?
For a little over a week now, the internet has been divided over images of Scoot McNairy on the set of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. In these images, McNairy is wearing what appear to be green leg covers (not socks) over the lower half of his legs. These leg covers will more than likely be used to edit an effect (or a different set of legs) into McNairy's scenes.
While early speculation placed him in the role of The Flash or Metallo, a new theory (from the website "The Devil's Eyes") says that McNairy is actually playing an injured Jimmy Olsen. The Devil's Eyes reported that they'd heard this from an extra:
"Scoot is playing Jimmy Olsen, but with a bit of a twist. Jimmy was injured during the battle of Zod vs Superman. His legs where pinned under falling building rubble and that caused him to lose the legs. He now walks with the use of two prosthetic legs." The source goes on to add "He doesn't blame Superman for it [his loss of legs]. He feels grateful that Superman saved the world.
We didn't get to see Jimmy in Man of Steel, and it seems as though this movie will already be host to a plethora of supporting characters from both Gotham and Metropolis! That said, it wouldn't be surprising to see Jimmy pop up - but I'm just not convinced by this. When it comes to rumors, they should always be just that: rumors to set the fans' creative minds ablaze with fun speculation and plot theories. If you source isn't verified, take it with a grain of salt.
The only reason I have a major gripe with this particular source is because McNairy's pants are pinned up. That, of course, is probably a silly and nitpicky reason to some, but why would Jimmy leave his pants rolled up and pinned on a daily basis? If you wear long pants with prosthetics, you'll still wear your pants long. Either Jimmy's really into showing off his new legs, or this was done by the crew for a specific reason (running effects? Metal legs?).
Of course, Jimmy could totally be into wearing his work pants like capris. Who knows? Kids these days have the craziest fashion sense. Stay tuned for more set news and, possibly, some plot reveals.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice releases on March 25th, 2016.
