No more speculations I guess!
Initially when announcement was made at Comic-Con that the next film in DCCU, Batman v Superman : Dawn of Justice will be influenced by The Dark Knight Returns, everyone thought we were going to get a 50+ year old Batman.
Then Ben Affleck was cast. Now Affleck does not look old. He looks younger than he really is, which is great for his involvement in further DC movies but made people question what age Batfleck will really be. Some reports said in his forties initially. Then another set of reports came from the set that maybe Bruce Wayne will be in his early fifties. Now all rumors can rest!
Talking to the Asbury Park Press, executive producer Michael Uslan has confirmed that Batman/Bruce Wayne will be in his mid-40s in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", while defending the decision to cast Ben Affleck in the role.
"We've been through this I don't know how many times already,"
"Every time a director makes a creative, out-of-the-box-thinking decision on casting, it tends to get this. I remember even the 'Iron Man' (2008) guys got it on Robert Downey Jr. initially"
"Of course, we got it intensely when another genius, Chris Nolan, chose Heath Ledger to play the Joker (in 2008's 'The Dark Knight'). And it was a huge outcry: 'How can a guy who just played a gay cowboy (in 2005's 'Brokeback Mountain') play the Joker? You're going to destroy the greatest villain ever, this is going to be a laugh"
"So, this has happened time and again, and it happened with Affleck. To go back to the original thought of Bruce Wayne in his mid-40s, I think he's going to be extraordinary"
It's great to have confirmation of sorts. This means we get to see Batman in more DC movies at his prime. Having an old Batman while would have worked OK for one film, but in the future movies his age would have become a burden.
What do you guys think? Are you happy with this news or would you have rather had a crusty old Batman? Put in your thoughts down below
