Now, awesome as Guardians of the Galaxy was - and it was Awesome with a capital A - the movie didn't show us a whole lot of things we were desperate to get a look at. Putting an entire galaxy's worth of Marvel characters who we'd have loved to have seen aside, though, the one that still eats away at me the most is Adam Warlock.

After all, we managed to catch a glimpse of the (potentially hugely significant) Marvel hero in the finished [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073) movie - albeit in distinctly cocoon-contained form - but that just wasn't enough...

I mean, sure - it was a pretty direct reference to the character's origins...

And, yeah, Kevin Feige confirmed that if Guardians did well at the box office (which it very much did) then we would most likely be seeing Adam Warlock, Nova and the rest of the galactic gang in the near future...

"I think if Guardians works the way we certainly hope it works, that would probably be the franchise to meet a lot of those people. That would be our entrance into numerous other cosmic folk. If we spin those out into individual movies, that’s a question for down the line. But I think we would see those kinds of characters in a future Guardians movie."

But, still, it's not enough. We need more Adam Warlock, and we need it now...

Actually, scratch that - look, a convenient, newly-released behind-the-scenes featurette on Guardians of the Galaxy, featuring director James Gunn giving a guided tour of The Collector's lair...

Featuring this...

...probably our best look yet at Adam Warlock's cocoon.

Which is pretty darned awesome.

The funny thing is, though, we don't actually hear anything about Adam Warlock in that whole featurette.

Howard the Duck? Sure...

Cosmo the Space Dog? Absolutely...

A Dark Elf? Check...

And even the slugs from James Gunn's earlier movie, Slither...

But, even though we get to see both the awesome shot of his cocoon above, and this bad-ass concept art of it...

...we don't hear anything about Adam Warlock.

Which is kind of strange, seeing as...

Adam Warlock is a Key Part of Marvel's Phase 3

Now, Adam Warlock was originally a peripheral Marvel figure, whose stories tended to revolve around 'Counter-Earth,' a planet that orbited on the other side of the Sun, and was kind of weird.

However, come the early '90s, he became the central hero of Marvel's Infinity Gauntlet limited series. In which Thanos...

a.k.a. this guy.
a.k.a. this guy.

...destroys half the universe with his newly completed Infinity Gauntlet.

You'll probably recognize the collection of the Infinity Gems that constitute that gauntlet as being the entire underlying sub plot of almost every single Marvel movie so far.

And, of course, the likely plot of this...

The key thing there? You can't have the whole Infinity War/Gauntlet saga without Adam Warlock. He's basically the central cosmic hero, opposing the central cosmic villain, Thanos - and is the story's key protagonist.

But What Does That Mean?

Other than the fact that The Hulk gets strangled...
Other than the fact that The Hulk gets strangled...

Well, aside from the fact that Adam Warlock will almost certainly end up in the MCU before too long, it also suggests that James Gunn's silence - when it comes to Adam Warlock, at least - in the video above might just speak volumes.

After all, if Adam Warlock is set to be a central figure in [Guardians of the Galaxy 2](movie:1081113), the film's director isn't likely to highlight too much about him before that particular fact is announced.

The only downside to that, if true?

It probably means we won't see Cosmo the Space Dog joining the team...

What's your bet? Will we see Adam Warlock on the big screen?
