It's no secret that Adam Warlock is destined to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point in the near future - especially considering Marvel is steering the whole universe towards the Infinity Gauntlet. For those of you who aren't up on the comics, Warlock plays a pivotal role in the Infinity Gauntlet saga. As pictured above, Warlock even gets to wear the gauntlet for a brief period of time.

We've already seen his cocoon in Guardians of the Galaxy (GotG) and James Gunn himself has confirmed that it definitely was Warlock's cocoon. We can therefore expect Warlock to appear in [Guardians of the Galaxy 2](movie:1081113) or Avengers 3, or both.

So who has the look, screen presence and acting chops to play the almighty Adam Warlock?

Did he hatch then the Collector's den exploded?
Did he hatch then the Collector's den exploded?

Who are we looking for?

  • Male
  • Blond Hair
  • Aged late 20s to late 30s
  • Tall (he is 6'2 in the comics)
  • A serious demeanor (opposite of Chris Pratt)

In no particular order... Here are my top five picks!

5.) Eric Christian Olsen

Cover him in gold paint. Boom, Adam Warlock.
Cover him in gold paint. Boom, Adam Warlock.

Nobody ticks all the boxes like Olsen, even down to sharing the exact same height as Warlock. He's 37 years old and has been in the acting game for close to 20 years. Along the way he has racked up a number of small movie roles and currently maintains a B-list status in Hollywood. He's currently starring in NCIS: Los Angeles and would no doubt love to take on a meaty role like Warlock to help propel him into the A-list, just like GotG did for Chris Pratt.

4.) Travis Fimmel

The Viking King himself, Ragnar Lodbrok. If you want a serious, threatening and physical Warlock, you simply have to consider Travis Fimmel. Warlock is known for having piercing red eyes and, if Vikings is anything to go by, Fimmel has that part of the role locked down. Also thanks to Vikings, Fimmel already has a terrifying screen presence and his model good looks will ensure he sells a bunch of merchandise and tickets; much like Chris Hemsworth. Like Olsen, Fimmel is currently biding his time in TV land, waiting for a role like Warlock to slide across his desk. Marvel, make this happen!

3.) Trevor Donovan

Someone give this guy the gauntlet already...
Someone give this guy the gauntlet already...

Donovan may not have acting chops as strong as Olsen or Fimmel, but he certainly has the Warlock look down pat. While Donovan hasn't exactly blown away critics with his acting ability, he does have a likable screen presence and a lot of charisma - which is something Marvel likes. Donovan would be looking for a role to take him to the big leagues; a role he could really sink his teeth into and use to demonstrate that he really is worthy of A-list status. If Marvel wants an actor that is hungry and hard-working, Donovan should at least get a screen test.

2.) Charlie Hunnam

Hunnam was born to play Adam Warlock

The Sons of Anarchy Prez himself, Jax Teller. Hunnam has been floating on the surface of A-list waters for some time now and is so close he can taste it. In fact, in the next few years, he already has 2 upcoming movies (Crimson Peak & King Arthur) that could cement his status as the new Brad Pitt. His role in Pacific Rim proved that Hunnam has what it takes to bat in the big leagues and lead a movie. Marvel needs someone like Hunnam to really own Warlock, however, it's highly unlikely they'll be able to get him, considering how busy his schedule is.

1.) Luke Mitchell

He's already got the Warlock hair, why not?
He's already got the Warlock hair, why not?

No fan casting list would be complete without an outsider. Mitchell is a young (29 years old) Australian actor who is waiting for a role to catapult his career, like Thor did for Chris Hemsworth. Mitchell is very green, with only 5-6 years of acting under his belt, but, with a role like Warlock, he has the potential to surprise everyone and really make an impact. Warlock is also the kind of role that would benefit from a fresh actor that nobody knows or recognizes. I think that he at least deserves a screen test.
