2016 is going to be a blast for avid movie fans, with more than a dozen blockbuster movies set to release next year it’s going to be a hard pick to see which one is actually worth your money. That being said, we have compiled a list of the top 5 action movies to help you decide on which movie should give you your money’s worth.

5. Star Wars: Rogue One

Star Wars is back with Episode VII: The Force Awakens soon to be released this December, and with that the franchise is coming full steam ahead. Star Wars: Rogue One will center on the era between Episode III and IV after the purge of the Jedi. Left without any Jedi, a crew of rebels must team up and take up the mission to steal the plans for the ultimate weapon: the Death Star. Whether you’re a fan of star wars or not, this action adventure set in space is one to look out for.

4. Suicide Squad

DC’s upcoming on screen take on the comic book team of the same name. It is set to take place in the shared universe of DC films. The suicide squad, also called Task Force X is a team made up of supervillains that have been recruited by a secret government agency to execute dangerous black ops missions that no superhero would do, in exchange for clemency. With Jared Leto as the Joker and Will Smith as Deadshot, expect to see some great performances mixed with gritty action and fun. Along with other well-known actors to fill up the team, this movie is definitely going to be a good one.

3. Deadpool

The much awaited stand-alone Deadpool movie. Ryan Reynolds, playing as Deadpool has been enthusiastic with showing pictures from their various filming locations and it looks like the movie is being handled well. After former Special Forces operative Wade Wilson gets subjected to experiments that leaves with powers of accelerated healing (yes, just like wolverine), he adopts the name of Deadpool to seek revenge against the men that destroyed his life. With its dark and twisted humor as in the comic books, it was an obvious choice to put a Rated-R rating on the film. If you’re into mind blowing action and witty one lines combined with dark humor, then this movie is definitely for you.

2. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Who doesn’t know these two heroes? With countless movies in the last decade between the two, it was an obvious decision to finally put them together and make them challenge each other. From what we’ve seen in the trailer, the film follows the events after Superman’s fight with General Zod that left almost half of Metropolis destroyed. A statue has been built for him but the population is still hesitant with having an alien as their hero. This brings Batman’s attention to metropolis, and to Superman. As the trailer suggests, they will be fighting each other at one point and truly, this fight is a movie event that you don’t want to miss.

1. Captain America: Civil War

At the top of our list is Marvel’s Civil War. With almost all of the characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe appearing in the film (imagine gathering all of them in one filming location), you can pretty much call this the “Avengers 2.5”. Pitting the Avengers against each other after the events of Age of Ultron, the heroes will have to make a decision on where their allegiances stand. Is it to the government, or is it to the people they’re protecting? Helmed by the directors Anthony and Joe Russo that lead to the success of Captain America: Winter Soldier, this movie is sure to be action packed and full of fun. If you’re going to watch only one movie this 2016, then this should be it.

As you might have noticed, the list is filled with comic book movies. DC and Marvel will be battling it out next year on who will top the blockbuster movie of 2016. The good thing is, us movie fans will get to enjoy different movies with exciting action and well developed stories. Do you agree with this list? Tell us your opinion in the comments.
