Superhero films these days wouldn’t have been possible were it not for the two creative minds over at Marvel Studios: Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. Stan “The Man” Lee has been a staple in Marvel history and has provided fans plenty of comic book lore to dive into. His passion and enthusiasm have won fans over and has helped create some of the greatest comic book characters of all time.

These comic book stories have been brought to life on the big screen over the past few decades and has continued to grow to this day. Superhero film’s don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon, especially with the current slate of MCU and DCEU films established over the next five or more years.

Stan Lee is not one to shy away from any questions being thrown at him. Most of the time he will give you an honest answer even if it’s as simple as a yes or no. Fans have seen this man continue to appear at many different comic book related festivals, including his appearances to the all-popular San Diego Comic-Con.

What Did Stan Lee Have To Say?

Recently, Stan Lee took to his FaceBook page to allow fans to ask him anything in an “Ask Stan” Q+A. One lucky fan asked him a rather interesting question relating to what his favorite Marvel film was to date. However, this is not just his favorite MCU film, but rather his favorite Marvel film in general. Stan responded with a quick little video. In it, Lee responded saying:

“I think my favorite comic book movie was the first one that was such a hit, the first Spider-Man. After that, everything else seemed easy.”

Did He Make The Right Choice?

Who am I to judge the great Stan Lee? In all seriousness though, I have to say that I believe Stan Lee picked a great choice here. The very first live-action Spider-Man film directed by Sam Raimi was a phenomenal movie and a big hit at the box office (it grossed $821.7 million world wide and $403.7 million domestically). For me, Tobey Maguire is still my personal favorite Spider-Man (let’s wait and see how Tom Holland does in his first solo film outing).

I for one absolutely adore the first film. While the sequel with Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus is also a great film, the first Spider-Man to me is the one that has won me over with enjoying comic book films.

I was a ’90s kid, as I fondly remember watching Spider-Man: The Animated Series. To finally see that show eventually be turned into a live-action version, put a big smile on my face. I even loved the choice of the Green Goblin (played by William Dafoe) as the main antagonist. The film had many great moments including Spider-Man's cage fight with Bonesaw (Randy Savage). The origin story of Spider-Man was also told phenomenally well. And of course, who could forget the perfectly cast J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson?

This film had everything going for it and began to establish the way superhero film’s are made today. It seems we have both Bryan Singer (X-Men Franchise) and Sam Raimi to thank for setting the bar high for superhero films.

Did you agree with Stan Lee’s choice? What is your favorite Marvel movie so far? I’d like to hear what you have to say in the comment section below and don’t forget to share!
