Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released more than 6 months ago and many questions are still up in the air. From the speculation over Snoke's true identity to how Maz Kanata came to possess Luke's lightsaber,, fans are still eagerly waiting to find out the answers to these questions. However, there is one question that fans have been asking way before the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Who are Rey's parents?
There have been many different rumors that made it onto the internet, which ranged from possible to absolutely improbable. Well, it seems like we don't have to wait until 2017 for Episode 8 or even 2019 for Episode 9 to find out who Rey's parents really are, because it looks like a certain artist has given us our answer.
*MAJOR SPOILERS ARE AHEAD!*
Rodel Gonzalez is a Filipino artist licensed by Disney and Lucasfilm who has painted many Star Wars paintings. He recently painted a picture of Rey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. See it below:
Gonzalez certainly painted a beautiful painting depicting Rey on her home planet, Jakku. However, the title of the painting gives away a major plot point of the new Star Wars trilogy: the heritage of Rey.
Rey is a Skywalker!
No surprise here that Rey is a Skywalker. Of course, this isn't 100 percent official, but this isn't the first hint leading us to the conclusion that Rey is a Skywalker.
Now, this could mean a bunch of different things. The most probable scenario is that Rey is the daughter of Luke Skywalker. If that is true, who would her mother be? Anakin Skywalker only had a mother because he was most likely born by the Force. We are told that Shmi Skywalker just woke up pregnant one day and that there was no father.
This could easily be the case with Rey if Luke was a woman, but we know how the birds and the bees work (I hope). There has to be a mother because she would have to give birth to Rey.
Who Could Be Rey's Mother?
There are many different possibilities out there for sure. One popular theory is that Rey's mother is Jyn Erso, who is the main character in the upcoming Star Wars film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Jyn Erso could have fought behind the scenes throughout the whole classic trilogy and hooked up with Luke after Return of the Jedi. They would raise her for the first couple of years of her life until the threat of the First Order arises and they have to make the decision to drop her off on Jakku before someone could find her.
It is also essential that she lived because Kylo Ren would have killed most of the Jedi padawans that Luke was training. Therefore, Rey would be one of the last Jedi left. If this is true, this could be the reason behind the cancellation of Erso's comic book series as Disney decided that they want to use her for these purposes and save her origins.
Is There Any More Evidence?
It is guaranteed there will be some nasty comments in the comment section below saying how this is "clickbait" or that "this is an insufficient quantity of evidence." Before you do that, just remember that this painting is not the first piece of evidence that proves that Rey is a Skywalker.
In Disney Infinity, Kylo Ren was put up against Rey in a lightsaber battle, where he referred to her as his cousin.
Kathleen Kennedy has said that this new Star Wars trilogy is focused on the Skywalker family.
Considering that Rey is the main character, it only makes sense that she is indeed a Skywalker. She is very strong with the force, as she blocked out Kylo Ren and picked up a lightsaber without training or effort. With training, she will become a powerful Jedi, just like her father and his father before him.
