We all know Emilia Clarke as the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's Game Of Thrones, and more recently as Louisa Clarke in Me Before You. We've all seen a little more of Emilia's personality in clips of her messing around on and off set, but what was the actress up to before she hit the big time?

Here are 10 facts about Emilia Clarke before fame took over:

Her first kiss was in a cupboard

It was during spin the bottle, and she didn't want to kiss a boy in front of everyone, so she suggested going into a cupboard to do it. Aw, young love.

Growing up, Emilia Clarke developed an obsession with Audrey Hepburn

This obsession stemmed from Hepburn's film My Fair Lady. And she often said "I swear on Chanel" when she wanted to be taken seriously.

Little did she know that she would step closer to Hepburn in 2013 by starring in Breakfast at Tiffany's on Broadway.

She was bullied at school

Clarke has said in past interviews that she was bullied at school for her eyebrows:

"My mum had rules when I was growing up: Don't do drugs, don't have sex, and don't touch your eyebrows. So I got bullied as a kid for having ridiculous eyebrows".

I think we are all grateful for her mum's advice.

She starred in a Samaritans advertisement in 2009

The Samaritans is a charitable organisation designed to help people of all ages with a broad range of issues. People manage the lines for those in need to ring up and talk in confidentiality about their issues.

In this add, Clarke plays a girl called Lisa. Lisa has experienced 11 years of abuse, 5 years in care, and a lifetime of guilt and pain, states the Samaritans.

Clarke's appearance and thus Lisa's story aims to raise an awareness for the organisation.

She’s incredibly musical! Clarke can sing, play piano, flute and guitar

Presumably because of her father's theatrical background and her exposure to it from a young age, Clarke is very musical.

Her ability to sing is something which has come to light, particularly in Me Before You, when Clarke sings to love interest, William Traynor (Sam Claflin) a bizarre song which goes something like this: I willlish I llllived in mollolonkey lllland

If acting didn't work out, she had back up options

Clarke has stated that if acting didn't work out like her parents had thought, she would have been an architect, a singer, or a graphic designer. Imagine that?

Her first TV appearance was in Doctors

Her appearance was a walk-in role as character called Saskia Mayer who has a troubled family life with a mother who killed herself, and a father who is controlling and follows her every movement.

The episode was titled 'Empty Nest' and aired in August 2009.

Her first film appearance was in Triassic Attack

Emilia Clarke starred as Savannah in a Horror/Sci-Fi about a Native-American museum owner who accidentally brings three dinosaurs back to life. Clarke's Savannah is the troublesome teenage daughter of the main protagonists of the film.

Released in 2010, and only rated 3.1/10 on IMDb, I think it's fair to say it wasn't very good.

Clarke was working six jobs to pay her rent at the time she received a call for an audition for Game Of Thrones

She phoned in sick to work, and had 24 hours to prepare for the audition.

And just because she's wonderful, she did the funky chicken and robot dance in her audition. Stylish.

If it wasn't for Tamzin Merchant she'd probably still be working those six jobs

Tamzin Merchant was actually cast as Dany, and had already filmed the pilot for Game of Thrones, however she had to pull out for unknown reasons.

Through interviews and other various forms of media, it seems Emilia Clarke is fairly open about her life before Daenerys Targaryen took over. It also appears that all the fame hasn't got to her head yet, as she's pretty down to earth.

Which fact is your favourite? Is there another you'd add to the list?
