It looks like Rising Stars will get another shot at the big screen. According to Deadline the J. Michael Straczynski created series will be heading to the big screen thanks to MGM, with Alex Gartner and Richard Suckle of Atlas Entertainment as producers.

As of this writing Straczynski is expected to write the script as well. This is hardly Straczynski's first foray in Hollywood with credits including Changling, Ninja Assassin, the Netflix series Sense 8 and the Emmy-winning series Babylon 5.

Released in 1999 (and running through 2005) Rising Stars is about how a group of superheroes are linked by a singular event and how they change the world. Published through Image/Top Cow it was a massive hit upon its release due to Straczynski's stellar writing, the eye-catching art, and the intriguing murder-mystery angle done during the comic's first arc.

While there were plans for a film deal in 2003, issues between Straczynski and Top Cow halted not only the film but the comic until two years later. There is no director or projected release date as of yet.
