As if there wasn't enough to be scared of at night. A new trailer for the upcoming James Wan produced Lights Out has been released and it is just beyond one the most terrifying things I have ever seen. James Wan, best known for being the modern day Wes Craven, is responsible for the likes of Insidious, The Conjuring and its 2016 sequel, and we all know just how extremely creepy and sleep depriving those films are. The new film, directed by newcomer David F. Sandberg, is based on a short horror film created by the director himself.

Producer James Wan had this to say of the film,

“What makes 'Lights Out' so effective to me is how it deals with our everyday fear. People are terrified of the dark. That is a top-five of fears that people have: darkness, night terrors. The short film David Sandberg came up with is, it’s so simple. Someone turns off the light and you think you see something in the darkness, but when you turn it back on, it’s not there. We’ve all had that kind of experience and so this movie really deals with that — taking that concept and making a feature out of it.”

Lights Out stars Theresa Palmer, Gabriel Bateman, Alexander DiPersia, Billy Burke, and Maria Bello. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 22. You can check out the original short film (prepare to never sleep again) the new film is based on below.
