Every State of the Union, when all the political elite and the Executive Branch gather to hear the President of the United States give a speech on what we did good, what we did bad, and what we need to do to change things outlined in his political agenda, there is one person who stays behind. This is the member of the President's cabinet that watches the event in a secure location should there be a devastating attack on The State of the Union attendees. Should the worst happen this person is sworn in as President of the United States, gathers all of our American military commanders, and elevates our national defensive condition (DEFCON) in response.

This person is known as the Designated Survivor, and this fall ABC will tackle this scenario with none other than Kiefer Sutherland as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Tom Kirkman.

The concept of this reality definitely sends a deep chill up the spine. This show will present a unique angle within a national catastrophe that presents a nightmare scenario slightly below a nuclear attack. Designated Survivor also stars Maggie Q as an FBI agent investigating the attack and what may come next, Kal Penn, a White House Speechwriter who must help a man lead a nation that he has no faith in, and Natascha McElhone as Alex Kirkman, The new President's wife.

We've seen him as a counter terrrorism agent (24) for such a long time that this casting for Keifer Sutherland as the President of the United States is almost perfect and we can't wait!

DESIGNATED SURVIVOR airs September 21st on ABC.
