Anyone who's seen any of the Avengers movies knows that Black Widow is a force to be reckoned with (skip to 2:10 of the clip below for proof) — so much so she may be getting her own solo movie in the MCU, but it would seem that Scarlett Johansson mirrors Widow's kick-ass attitude in real life too — she's just been crowned the highest-grossing actress ever!

Grossing a whopping $3.3 billion in the United States, Johansson slides in at No. 10 on a table of the top 50 actors and actresses whipped up by Box Office Mojo, which (surprise, surprise) is overwhelmingly dominated by men. Harrison Ford, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, Robert Downey Jr., Eddie Murphy, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Michael Caine all lay before her, with Cameron Diaz sliding in at position 19, Helena Bonham Carter at 26, and Cate Blanchett at 29.

While it's hardly surprising that Johansson tops the bill — she's the only female lead in Marvel's most lucrative franchise after all — with The Avengers ranking numero uno in the MCU box-office chart, it certainly highlights the lack of female leads within cinema's biggest blockbusters.

Do you think we need to see more female roles in large cinematic franchises?
