It takes quite a leap of faith to agree to go out with someone you met on a dating app. Maybe they'll look nothing like their pictures, or perhaps the conversation will be stilted and awkward? Or perhaps, like the subject of a new short film titled Becky, they'll be totally insane?

Joel H. Brewster, Tarun Keram and Mat Lo, the team behind Becky, run the Vancouver-based film production company, Akuma Films. The company aims to create films which inject "originality and diversity" into the horror and sci-fi genres, and are currently busy working on a four-part horror short film universe.

Becky is the company's first short, and similar to other recent short films, shows the dark side of apps. However this time it's the world of dating apps. The film follows the charming Steven who, after meeting a beautiful woman named Becky using a dating app similar to Tinder, invites her over for dinner. However soon things get strange, and what was just a simple meal becomes much, much more.
