Well, we all know by now that Leonardo DiCaprio's favorite thing in the world may be surrounding himself with bikini-clad ladies while trotting around on his various luxury yachts. Yet, although we might be familiar with many aspects of the legendary actor's life, little did we know that he also had a brush with his current lifestyle long before he was snapping up Academy Awards for getting in a tussle with a bear:
According to original Baywatch producers Michael Berk and Douglas Schwartz, when he was just 15 years old, a fresh-faced Leo almost landed the part in the iconic '90s show. In fact, the young actor was close to starring as David Hasselhoff's son, Hobie.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Berk revealed:
“We actually had DiCaprio ready to be cast. But David thought he was too old to play his son.”
Apparently, as the story goes, Hasselhoff was against the casting because he had concerns that a young actor would make him appear far older than he wanted to be. Schwartz added:
“David thought it would make him look older. He had a lot of concerns of that type.”
As we know, the part actually ended up going to Brandon Call in the first season, who was then replaced with Jeremy Jackson for the remainder of the beach babe extravaganza.
And young Leo wasn't the only budding star that Hasselhoff was eager to veto when the first season of Baywatch came out. Apparently, the Hoff was also very against red-swimsuit stalwart Pamela Anderson joining the cast. Berk admitted:
“David said, ‘I don’t want a girl that’s been in Playboy.' He said, ‘Children watch this show.’”
Schwartz then piped in, drawing attention to Pammie's ample assets as being a particular reason for Hasselhoff's uncertainty:
"She had these enormous breasts and David thought he would be upstaged by everyone looking at her breasts. Which is what happened."
Oh, you sneaky Hoff! Let's hope that kind of behavior wasn't an issue in the recent production of the upcoming Baywatch adaptation, starring The Rock, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and a returning Pamela.
Who was your favorite Baywatch character?
