After his rousing success with the recently released Conjuring 2, James Wan continues to prove that the roll he's on is never-ending. The acclaimed Australian director has consistently wowed audiences since his debut on the horror scene with Saw in 2004 and he has gone from strength to strength since, directing anything from the first and second Conjuring and Insidious to most recently stepping out of the genre to direct the much loved Furious 7. He's even going for the gold in the superhero genre, where he will direct Warner Bros.' Aquaman. In short, the man is unstoppable — but who would want to anyhow?!

Since James Wan is an insanely prolific filmmaker, let's take a look at six of his upcoming projects:

1. Annabelle 2

Annabelle, the creepiest doll ever?
Annabelle, the creepiest doll ever?

Release date: May 19, 2017

  • James Wan will produce

You all know Annabelle, right? The insanely creepy killer doll whose sinister nature is only rivaled by Chucky took theaters by storm last year, so it's no surprise filming for a sequel is already underway.

James Wan will act as producer, with Lights Out's David F. Sandberg directing. This time around, Annabelle will target a nun and several orphan girls who come to stay with a bereaved doll-maker and his wife in their home.

2. Insidious: Chapter 4

'Insidious: Chapter 3' was quite the fright-fest.
'Insidious: Chapter 3' was quite the fright-fest.

Release date: October 20, 2017

  • James Wan will produce

Another highly successful Wan project, Insidious is coming back again for its fourth installment. James Wan will act as producer, and while the plot is as yet unknown, reports suggest that we'll be heading into The Further, although speculation on potential storylines is still rife! Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan) will direct, with Chapter 3 writer Leigh Whannell penning the script; Lin Shaye will also reprise her role as parapsychologist Elise Rainier.

3. Saw: Legacy

Release date: October 27, 2017

  • James Wan is executive producer

Although little is known about the plot of the eighth installment to the Saw franchise, there's been a fair amount of speculation. Check out some of the best plot ideas so far, in addition to some killer fan-made poster art!

4. Aquaman

Aquaman will unite the seven!
Aquaman will unite the seven!

Release date: July 27, 2018

  • James Wan will direct

Hells to the yeah! James Wan will be sitting in the director's chair to unite the seven in Warner Bros./DC's production of Aquaman. So far the plot is unknown, but it's been reported that it will not be an origin story, instead taking place after the events of Justice League Part One. Game of Thrones hunk Jason Momoa will star as the titular character, with Amber Heard set to play Mera, Queen of the Sea and Aquaman's wife. David Leslie Johnson — who will also be working on The Nun with Wan — is set to pen the script.

Since DC's controversial attempts to rival Marvel's superhero movies have so far drawn up short (looking at you, Batman v Superman), hopes are high that Wan will steer the DCEU into successful waters with Aquaman; and judging by his box office track record, they've made a wise choice.

5. Mortal Kombat

'Mortal Kombat' to get a reboot!
'Mortal Kombat' to get a reboot!

Release date: TBA

  • James Wan will produce

Mortal Kombat is getting the reboot it sorely deserves, and who better to produce it than James Wan? Although we still know woefully little about the project, a plot summary was released by The Tracking Board, who got the exclusive scoop. The new Mortal Kombat will center around:

... a seemingly harmless guy who realizes his potential when he finds himself caught in the middle of a cross-dimensional battle between the warriors of Earth and the monsters of Outworld. Now, in order to stop the world from total destruction, he must win the martial arts tournament known as Mortal Kombat.

Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat: Legacy) and Dave Callaham (The Expendables) will be writing the script. Described by New Line Cinema as “a departure from the mythology,” with “darker, brutally real martial arts,” here's hoping we get a thrilling ride that will have us all screaming "Finish him!" at the screen come release time.

6. The Nun

The Conjuring 2's nun is getting her own film.
The Conjuring 2's nun is getting her own film.

Release date: TBA

  • James Wan will produce

Set to be a spin-off featuring the terrifyingly deranged nun from The Conjuring 2, The Nun will most likely explore her origin within the Conjuring universe. With James Wan set to produce, and David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) on board to pen the script, I think we'll be in for a treat with this one.

As you can see, James Wan looks like he has no intention of relenting in his tireless taking by storm of the movie industry. Moving seamlessly from horror movies to adventure TV to the superhero genre, it's clear he has every intention of making his mark in cinematic history — and I have to say, I think he'll get what he wants.
