2016 has been a big year for TV. First The Walking Dead left us all in the lurch with that insane season finale, Daredevil returned to Netflix with almighty success, and then Game of Thrones blew us completely out of the water with one of the best seasons yet. On top of all that The CW renewed (almost) all of their shows, while CBS canceled a bunch of theirs.

So what can we expect from the remaining half of 2016 and into the future? Well, quite a lot. Many excellent TV shows have been renewed, while many others saw the sharp end of the axe, so what stays and what goes? Here's a handy list- please feel free to rage/rejoice in the comments.

Netflix (RENEWED)

Jessica Jones: Unpopular opinion time! I actually preferred Jessica Jones to Daredevil. Look, both are amazing, but I loved David Tenant's Purple Man and Krysten Ritter's Jessica; I loved the grittiness of Hell's Kitchen; I loved the dialogue and the drama. I am so excited for Luke Cage, and I'm intrigued about what Season 2 may hold.

Also renewed:
BoJack Horseman
Chef’s Table
F Is for Family
Fuller House
Grace and Frankie
House of Cards
Longmire
Love
Master of None
Orange Is the New Black
Peaky Blinders
The Ranch
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Hemlock Grove: I gave Hemlock Grove a good chance, and you know what? It wasn't the worst thing ever. It kept me entertained for the season and a half I watched, and the CGI was pretty great too. But sadly, after three seasons it wasn't getting the hype needed to resurrect it, so RIP Hemlock Grove.

Also cancelled:
Derek
The Fall

CBS (RENEWED)

CBS
CBS

Supergirl: Nerds rejoice! Supergirl has not left us to fend for ourselves but is returning to Earth by way of the CW. After producing many successful seasons of both The Flash and Arrow, it makes perfect sense that Supergirl would leave her old home on CBS and join the family.

Also renewed:
The Amazing Race
2 Broke Girls
48 Hours
60 Minutes
The Big Bang Theory
Blue Bloods
Code Black
Criminal Minds
Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders

Person of Interest: There's sadly no Season 6 is in the works for this CBS drama, which was announced only hours after the release of the Season 5 premier date. Executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman thanked fans in this statement to IGN upon the shows cancelation:

“We’re extremely excited to be able share this final season with the fans. We’re eternally grateful to our amazing cast and crew, as well as our partners at the studio and network. Most of all, we want to thank the show’s fans — the best fans in the world. This subversive little paranoia-inducing cyberpunk-thriller is for you and would not have been possible without your support. As life has come to imitate Person of Interest, it’s been our great privilege to work on show for the past five seasons. We can’t wait for you to experience this thrilling and final chapter.”

How to Get Away With Murder: This is show is probably the most ridiculous/gripping thing on TV right now, and we just can't get enough. How To Get Away With Murder follows a group of young defence attorneys and their enigmatic teacher, professor Annalise Keating. The show is literally about people getting away with murder, both in and out of the courthouse, and it's amazing. Roll on Season 3!

American Idol: After 14 successful years of churning out pop's biggest and brightest starlets, only to have them fizzle into nothing finally aired its last episode on April 7th. Love it or hate it, there's a tiny, minuscule part of me that's sad to see it go.

The Grinder

HBO (RENEWED)

Girls: When Girls premiered in 2012, creator Lena Dunham was hailed for her realistic portrayal of twenty-somethings trying to make it work in New York City without a clue how. As the years rolled on, however, the show lacked a spark and the characters became increasingly unlikeable. Whether this was deliberate or not is up for debate, but despite this the show has been renewed for just one more season.

Which TV shows do you think should have been canceled? And what should have been saved?
