There’s always a time where a romantic movie is essential. It could be after a break up with a tub of Ben and Jerrys or on a night in with the girls. But whether it’s a Rom Com or a heartbreaking tragedy, a good Romance will always leave you looking for love. These are my favorite 11 romantic films that will have you longing for your Prince Charming. Beware of a few spoilers (but to be fair you should have seen all these movies by now)!

11. Love Actually (2003)

If you’re looking for a heart-warming Rom Com, this is definitely the one for you. Following the stories of 8 British couples (all linked together in some weird and wonderful way) this is in my opinion, the ultimate Romantic Comedy. With an all-star cast including the likes of Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson and Bill Nighy, Love Actually is a must watch.

10. Pretty Woman (1990)

Julia Roberts and Richard Gere star in this brilliant Romantic Comedy where a prostitute and a business man (Yes that’s right!) fall head over heels for each other. Watching Vivian (Roberts) transform into a sophisticated young woman to fit into Edward’s (Gere’s) world, you’ll dream of finding that special someone to treat you like a princess. And also want to do a LOT of shopping.

9. Sleepless In Seattle (1993)

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are the stars of this enchanting love story about a reporter who writes to a man (despite her being engaged!) after his son calls into a talk radio show to find him a new wife. Their paths continue to cross and they eventually meet at the top of the empire state building on Valentine’s Day. What could be more romantic?

8. The Notebook (2004)

WARNING: Do not watch without a box of tissues. Following the story of a passionate first love, this film is a true tear-jerker. Starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as a young couple madly in love, The Notebook is bound to pull at your heart strings and make you crave a love that lasts forever.

7. Titanic (1997)

This is one romance you’ll never let go of. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet tell the epic love story of two passengers on board the Titanic who fight to survive together as the ship goes down. In this tragic tale we see a beautiful romance blossom only to get torn apart, but know their love for each other will never be forgotten.

6. Dirty Dancing (1987)

Despite being close to 30 years old, this movie will always be timeless. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey play an unlikely couple who are brought into a passionate love when they are forced together in a Dance Competition. With Baby’s (Grey’s) disapproving parents and Johnny (Swayze) working at the hotel her family is staying in, they break all the rules to be together. Watch this to have the time of your life…

5. Ghost (1990)

This love story will have you longing for a man that will do anything to protect you. Starring Patrick Swayze (Sam) and Demi Moore (Molly) as the perfect couple madly in love, until a heart-breaking twist where Sam is murdered. The movie follows Sam as ghost doing everything he can to keep Molly from danger, even from the spooky “other side” …

4. Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

If you’re feeling down about your love life or doubting your dating skills, STOP what you’re doing and watch. The first of two (soon to be 3) hilarious films featuring Renée Zellweger as Bridget Jones, a 32-year-old single woman trying to start a new chapter… And not always succeeding. This Rom Com will not fail to make you laugh, and I certainly wouldn’t mind Colin Firth and Hugh Grant fighting over me!

3. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles star in this classic film about a teenage girl who has no interest in boys or romance (unlike us!). But when an edgy new arrival joins her school and bids to win her heart (well… he gets paid to do it…) she might not be able to resist. Let’s face it, we all love a bad boy.

2. The Holiday (2006)

Two tales of romance are told in this uplifting Romantic Comedy starring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black. This film is bound to have you dreaming of a holiday romance with the two couples flying across countries and into each other’s arms… A perfect fairy tale romance.

1. P.S. I Love You (2007)

Last but not least, my all-time favourite romantic movie. This film will break your heart from the very beginning and heal it again with this truly uplifting love story. Gerard Butler and Hillary Swank tell the story of how a husband helps his wife rebuild her life after his death with a series of letters she will treasure forever. P.S. I Love You will remind you that true love can never die, and will get you looking for just that.
