For years, critics and fans alike have argued which superhero film is undoubtedly the best. This has led people on the Internet to consistently argue back and forth, making unruly jabs at each other for having differing opinions. Friendships have crumbled, and many were left with regrets.

Acknowledging this rift in the world, it decided to put an end to it once and for all. One month ago, I pieced together what are described to be the 16 greatest superhero movies of all time. Each week, you, the fans, voted which films you thought were the best, and each week the number of superhero movies in the running were halved. Movies like Deadpool, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: The Winter Soldier were among films on this list. But only one could be named the best superhero movie of all time.

Last week, the final poll was put up, and you, the fans, voted on which of the remaining two films you thought should go down in history as the greatest superhero movie of all time. After thousands of votes were placed throughout each round, we finally know which movie is considered to be the best superhero movie of all time.

Here are the results...

Honorable Mention

During the final round, I brought back the 14 previously eliminated films to decide which one should be given the honorable mention, or 3rd place. Of the 14 films, the honorable mention goes to...

'Captain America: Civil War' (2016)

The only surprise about this earning the honorable mention is that it did not place any higher. Civil War proved itself to be a fantastic film, full of action, humor and seriousness, which is a heavy combination to pull off.

Not only did the film bring back some of our favorite characters, like Captain America, Iron Man and Ant-Man, but it also perfectly introduced new characters, like Spider-Man and Black Panther. Captain America: Civil War was truly amazing, and it undoubtedly deserves a place on this list.

Second Place

Of the final two candidates, one movie won, but the other still earns its place as the second best superhero movie of all time. Though it may not have taken the gold, this film showed initiative as it took the superhero sub-genre in a new direction. It broke boundaries and seriously changed the game, and will always be one of my all-time favorite movies. Second place goes to...

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' (2014)

The Winter Soldier was an extraordinary film. When people began to get used to the classic "hero vs villain" concept that most superhero movies share, The Winter Soldier mixed things up by making us wonder who the villains really are. The obvious villain, the Winter Soldier, winds up being one of Cap's oldest friends, while the people Cap thought he could trust, like Agent Rumlow, wind up being the masterminds behind it all.

The movie makes us not only question the plot of the movie itself, but our understanding of superhero movies in general. This movie tore apart the fabric of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making us wonder where this film - and the films to come - would be heading. The twists and turns made Captain America: The Winter Soldier a truly astounding superhero film, and it truly deserves its spot in second place.

First Place

Here's the one we have been waiting for since the first poll was posted a month ago. The movie that has been declared the best superhero movie of all time may not come as much of a surprise. It is a truly remarkable movie, with terrific writing, direction and acting throughout. It is one superhero movie I will always enjoy, as the story is so powerful and the acting is so fantastic that watching it just once will never do. The best superhero movie of all time is...

'The Dark Knight' (2008)

This film is truly fantastic. First off, Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker is truly unforgettable. He redefined the beloved character by truly personifying the maniac and by even improvising a lot of material that was not originally in the script. Without a doubt, he deserved the Oscar he won for Best Supporting Actor, and it saddens me to know that he never made it long enough to actually hold it in his hands. He truly deserved that win.

The story of The Dark Knight was amazing too. At the beginning of the movie, we see Batman living a stable and strong life as a superhero. Crime is at an all time low and everything seems perfect. Yet, everything is torn apart when a maniac who doesn't even know what he's doing half the time comes in and wrecks Batman's life. By the end of the film, Batman has failed at everything: his city hates him, the last "innocent" man in the city has been corrupted, and the love of his life is dead. The Dark Knight is an incredible film, and there is no question as to why it is the best superhero movie of all time. Whether you love or hate Batman, you cannot reasonably argue against this movie - it is as close to perfect as any film can get.

Thank you to all the thousands of people who voted over the past month. Hopefully this can put some of the fighting to rest. I am quite pleased with the results, and each of the three films on this list deserve their spot. What do you think of the results? Comment below, and don't forget to share!
