San Diego Comic-Con is only a short days away and while most of us (including myself) will not be attending the convention, we will get to see all of the news unfold from our homes. One of the biggest presentations of the whole event will be from Warner Bros. They'll be giving insight and showing off the trailers for their most anticipated upcoming films.
While Marvel is keeping what movies they are showing off close to the vest, Warner Bros. has revealed the six key films they will be talking about this year — and only two of them are DC Extended Universe films.
The first film Warner Bros. is showing off is Suicide Squad, which at the time of Comic-Con will be less than two weeks from entering theaters. We have already received all the footage we can get before release from the multiple trailers and TV spots. Despite the multiple previews, what we have seen from Suicide Squad has been a good amount — not too little but not to the point where it spoils the film. Therefore, there probably won't be a new trailer at Comic-Con and honestly, we shouldn't want one either.
However, we will get to see Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne, Adam Beach and Karen Fukuhara, along with writer and director David Ayer show up for the panel. The whole point of bringing Suicide Squad to Comic-Con is to remind fans that it's coming out in less than two weeks and they should start getting excited. So don't be surprised — or disappointed — when Suicide Squad doesn't show off that much.
Wonder Woman will be the main film that Warner Bros. shows off as it's the next DC film on the slate after Suicide Squad. By Comic-Con, the film will be almost 10 months away with a June 2, 2017 release date, so it is the perfect time for DC and Warner Bros. to release the first official full-length trailer. The chance of seeing a trailer is 99%, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that one. And for us fans not attending Comic-Con this year, the trailer will definitely be posted online shortly after as this is WB's chance to start promoting this film.
Not only will we see a full Wonder Woman trailer but stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen and director Patty Jenkins will be showing up for the panel. A lot of information will likely be revealed about the film, such as what Wonder Woman will be up to and who the main antagonist will be. This will be one of the biggest reveals at Comic-Con this year and it should be a great one.
The LEGO Batman Movie
This is the technically the third DC film being brought to Comic-Con with Warner Bros. I'm not sure how big the panel for this movie will be — only the star of the movie, Will Arnett, and the director, Chris McKay, are showing up to Comic-Con. This may be because Warner Bros. wants to focus on the other big films that they are bringing along with them and the fact that this is an animated movie spinning off of the hugely successful LEGO Movie — so it's pretty self-explanatory.
McKay could just talk about the film for a couple of minutes and explain how the film is progressing and what exactly it is about. At the end of the presentation for this film, we might get another trailer. We already received two big trailers for the movie and I'm not sure if it's exactly necessary to see a new one for a while.
King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword
Believe it or not, this is one of the most important movies Warner Bros. is showing off because chances are you probably forgot this film is even coming out- — if you even knew in the first place. This could potentially be a problem for the studio as the movie is being released on March 24, 2017 and we haven't heard anything about it since December when it was pushed back to 2017. Ironically, the film was supposed to come out on July 22, 2016 — a day before Warner Bros. panel takes place.
The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Jude Law, and Eric Bana. However, Warner Bros. is only bringing the star Charlie Hunnam to the panel — which is very odd. You would think that they would get the whole cast out there and really get the world aware of the movie, but their not even bringing Guy Ritchie — who is the director of the movie!
Hopefully, Warner Bros. shows us what's going on with this movie or else this film is in big trouble — especially since they planned on making six King Arthur movies!
Kong: Skull Island
Kong: Skull Island hasn't fallen off the grid like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword; fans have been highly anticipating the release of this film as it has a great — yet vague— premise and an extremely talented cast like Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts — who are all going to San Diego this year.
The panel should give the fans a lot of information about the film because even though it's highly anticipated, we don't know a lot about the movie, yet it's coming to theaters in March! So, definitely expect a trailer and a lot of plot details for the upcoming King Kong movie.
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
The last film on the Comic-Con slate for Warner Bros. is the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This will also be one of the bigger presentations that Warner Bros. will have, as the hype for this movie is way too low. Warner Bros. needs to remind people that a Harry Potter movie is coming out this year and we need to start getting excited for it. We received a teaser trailer a while back, which did its purpose and teased what is coming, leading to a full trailer that gave us a better idea of what to expect from this film.
The studio is planning to make this a big one by bringing along director David Yates and cast Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller and Colin Farrell. We should expect another full-length trailer showing us more of the "beasts" and, well, where we will find them. It would be great if Yates confirmed a lot of the Harry Potter creatures that are going to be featured in the film. We'll just have to see at the panel on July 23.
Wait! Where's Justice League?
Everything seemed about right until we realized that Warner Bros. is not actually bringing Justice League to San Diego Comic-Con as its for sure the biggest film on the DC slate. Well, even though it's not announced, Warner Bros. will most likely surprise us with some Justice League stuff. First of all, we already have Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller present at Comic-Con.
The one thing that Warner Bros. could do that would blow people away is bring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavil, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher out as a surprise. Then, either Zack Snyder or Geoff Johns could come on stage and announce the new Green Lantern. Then, we could hear some things about Justice League and get an awesome teaser trailer. If Warner Bros. did this to end their panel, they'd go out with a bang.
If Warner Bros. plays their cards right, they could easily be the best presentation at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. From Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman to having big reveals with Kong: Skull Island, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to having a lot of laughs with The LEGO Batman Movie and finishing out with a hypothetical Justice League teaser trailer, it could be awesome!
