You can't deny that there's nothing quite like a good comedy to get your giggle on. And just as well that Hollywood is pretty good at churning out some decent humor when it comes to movies.
Whether you're into endearing chick-flicks, dramedies or films that simply make you go "LOL WTF!?," there's something out there for everyone. Considering 2016 is still far from over, here are the 10 upcoming movies to look out for, divided by your particular interest.
For Those Who Adore Chick-Flicks
1. Bad Moms
Release: July 29, 2016
- Who's in it? Mila Kunis, Kathryn Hahn, Kristen Bell
Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn are set to star as some very bad moms in upcoming comedy called — wait for it — Bad Moms. It's a tale of overstressed mothers who lead seemingly perfect lives but who decide to let loose one fateful day. Naturally, a wild binge of self-indulgence ensues with hilarious consequences. Would watch.
2. Bridget Jones's Baby
Release: September 16, 2016
Who's in it? Renée Zellweger, Patrick Dempsey, Colin Firth
Yep, good ol' Bridge is making a comeback (enormous underwear in tow, of course!) and quite frankly, we couldn't be happier about it. It's been a long time since we saw Renée Zellweger in a blockbuster of this calibre so expectations are understandably high.
Following her shattered dreams of a "happily ever after" with hot-shot lawyer Mark Darcy, Bridget Jones is in her 40s and single again. Yet, just when everything appears under control, she finds herself mit Bebe after colliding with a handsome American named Jack Qwant. Oops!
3. Why Him?
Release: December 25, 2016
Who's in it? Zoey Deutch, Bryan Cranston, James Franco
Yet again, James Franco steps into a bold character in Why Him?, also starring Breaking Bad legend Bryan Cranston and Zoey Deutch. The premise of the story is pretty simple, but no less hilarious: Two parents go to visit their eldest daughter and meet her new boyfriend. Laird Mayhew is wealthy, famous and brutally honest about most things in life, which makes Ned (Cranston) hate his guts from the outset.
For Those Who Want To Go 'LOL, WTF!?'
4. Sausage Party
Release: August 12, 2016
Who's in it? Seth Rogan, Kristen Wig, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Paul Rudd, Edward Norton, Selma Hayek, Danny McBridge
From the writers of Superbad and Pineapple Express comes another similarly insane creation. Take note that although it is a CGI animation, Sausage Party is definitely not for kids, what with its slew of dirty jokes and NSFW scenes.
The premise is far more innocent however: The plot is all about a sausage called Frank and his hot dog bun girlfriend Brenda, who together embark on a journey to make sense of their existence. Aw.
5. Nine Lives
Release: August 5, 2016
Who's in it? Jennifer Garner, Kevin Spacey, Robbie Amell, Christopher Walken, Jennifer Garner
If you've ever felt the need to witness Kevin Spacey transform into a fluffy cat, you can thank the Hollywood gods because your chance is here. The French comedy introduces the life of Tom Brand (Spacey), who goes to a pet shop run by Felix Grant (Christopher Walken) and becomes miraculously trapped inside of a cat's body. Quite unfortunate, really.
6. Yoga Hosers
Release: August 5, 2016
Who's in it? Johnny Depp, Natasha Lyonne, Austin Butler, Lily-Rose Depp, Adam Brody, Justin Long, Kevin Smith
This movie has been getting quite a bit of hype, partly because it is strongly considered as rising star Lily Rose Depp's acting debut. With a focus on two young yoga enthusiasts who must battle an evil force and its army of tiny monsters, this is horror-comedy like no other.
For Those Who Enjoy Dramedies
7. The Hollars
Release: August 26, 2016
- Who's in it? Anna Kendrick, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Krasinski
Directed by and starring John Krasinki, The Hollars is a fantastic comedy-drama film to look out for in 2016. The movie has already turned quite a few heads after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival last January and now it's hitting our cinema screens at last.
The story follows a struggling graphic novelist, who is forced to return home when his mother is diagnosed with a brain tumor. Although her condition is absolutely no laughing matter, you'll find that the unfortunate events surrounding his visit home are.
8. Keeping Up With The Joneses
Release: October 21, 2016
- Who's in it? Gal Gadot, Isla Fisher, Jon Hamm, Zach Galifianakis
If two people looking like Gal Gadot and Jon Hamm moved in next door to you, your eyes would probably pop out of their sockets while marveling at their combined, and rather extraordinary, level of hotness. Indeed, this is definitely the case for Isla Fisher and Zach Galifianakis's characters in Keeping Up with the Joneses.
However, when the suburban pair get tangled up in an international espionage plot involving their new secret agent acquaintances, they're not too happy about it.
9. The Intervention
Release: August 26, 2016
Who's in it? Natasha Lyonne, Alia Shawkat, Cobie Smulders, Ben Schwartz, Alia Shawkat
The Intervention is all about four couples, who go on a weekend getaway that goes awry when one of the couples realize their friends have a different agenda in mind — they want to stage an intervention on their marriage.
Release: September 30, 2016
Who's in it? Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Jason Sudeikis, Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson
I don't know about you guys, but I would happily watch any film Kristen Wiig is in, regardless of its rating. Thankfully, this one is actually as funny as all of her other ones.
Also starring Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Jason Sudeikis, Zach Galifianakis and Owen Wilson, the farce sees a bunch of criminals try to get away with a "hillbilly heist" in North Carolina in 1997. As you can probably imagine, things don't really go to plan.
