With the popularity of the Marvel and DC cinematic universes, it is to no surprise that artists have used it as a source of inspiration. Case in point artist Alex Gross, who has transformed a series of old pictures into DC and Marvel superheroes. First, some inspiring theme music while you read:

Groot — Guardians Of The Galaxy

The tree-like creature Groot was created by the instantly recognizable Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Dick Ayers. Although Groot originally appeared as an invader, he later became one of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

The nerdy high-school student accepted much responsibility with his Spidey powers (and a few other responsibilities you likely didn't know about). The person in the painting sure does have the characteristics of a young Peter Parker.

The Founders Of The Justice League — Batman, Superman And Wonder Woman

If the superhero trio was created at the time that this picture was taken, you can say for sure that these kids would dress up like the DC heroes for Halloween.

The Bat-Family

Although the Bat-Family is not technically blood-related (apart from Damian), it is evident that a family that fights crime together, stays together. Without a doubt, this comes across in this family picture.

The X-Men

These women stand together like a real family, similar to the X-Men, even if they are not blood-related.

Like in real life “United We Stand, Divided We Fall,” and this applies to the MCU, which couldn't be a success without the array of different superheroes.

Alex Gross’s work not only involves superheroes but other pop culture icons that have a retro and artistic feel. To check out more of his work visit his website
