DC Universe Animated Original Movies are something fans have come to look forward to year after year. Seeing high quality animation tell complex stories allows DC and Warner Bros. to showcase characters that are less well-known and show new sides of their heavy hitters. Batman: The Killing Joke is the latest to achieve this success, introducing fans to the origin story of the iconic Joker and how Barbara Gordon's career as Batgirl came to an end.

Well, Warner Bros. Animation have announced plans for their next three feature films. This announcement came out during the Batman: Killing Joke panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego.

Justice League Dark

  • Voice Actors: Jason O'Mara, Camilla Luddington, Nicholas Turturro and Nicholas Turturro

This has been a title that has been in the works for a while. Originally proposed as a live-action feature, it is now set to join the animated universe. Set for release early 2017, it will be based loosely on the "New 52" title. This will see John Constantine form a team of supernatural superheroes to create the Justice League Dark. Along with John, the founding members include Deadman, Madame Xanadu, Shade the Changing Man and Zatanna. The film may waver from this line-up, given the use of the word "loosely" in describing the film. With Enchantress set to appear in Suicide Squad we could see her used as the primary antagonist for the film.

Teen Titans: The Judas Contract

Terra arrives.

  • Voice Actors: Unconfirmed

The Judas Contract is another film that was first planned over 10 years ago, but was cancelled due to the lack of a broader fan base. With the way Justice League vs. Teen Titans ended, it is no surprise this film is the next adventure for the Titans. During the post-credit scene, fans witnessed Terra heading towards Titan Tower, which plays an integral role in the plot. Terra will be seen joining the Titans and forming an extremely close bond with Beast Boy, only for it be revealed that she is a mole on their team for the enemy. The story is one of the most popular of the Teen Titan tales, so will surely be will received in movie form. The film is scheduled for release in 2017.

Batman & Harley Quinn

  • Voice Actors: Unconfirmed

Unlike the other two films, this movie will feature an original story. This has only happened with a couple of the films from the DC Universe Animated Original Movies, including Justice League: Gods and Monsters and Justice League vs. Teen Titans. This means anything could happen, as there is nothing for them to base the plot on. However, the film is being handled by the long-running DC animation veteran Bruce Timm, which does promise us a good solid story to enjoy. We may see Batman and Harley teaming up, or we could see them going toe-to-toe in an never before seen story. The film is set for release in 2017.

"DC Universe Animated Original Movies" Continue to Grow...

With the continuing success of the films, it is no surprise we are getting three new movies next year. It is nice to see them finally featuring two stories that have been proposed before, and it is no surprise they are planning on cashing in on the Harley Quinn craze. But will they be able to beat the reception Batman: The Killing Joke received? We will have to wait and see, but next year is set to deliver three new brilliant additions to an already large collection of films.
