So,with Melissa Benoist playing Kara Danvers aka Supergirl on the DC TV show Supergirl.Producers did say that Supergirl will be the major part of the 4-part crossover that includes The Flash,Arrow,Legends of Tommorow. The producers did say that Supergirl is what brings those teams together.

Here's what Marc Guggeheim had to say about the 4 part crossover:

"It’s an external threat from outside the shows that will involve Supergirl coming over to "The Flash," then "Arrow" then "Legends of Tomorrow.

What could the external threat be?

Infinte Crisis
Infinte Crisis

The 'external threat' could probably be referring to outside from Earth. That means it's probably coming from space. But that could also mean many things. DC Comics has several 'villains' that come from space. But here we are asking why from space? And this villain will be very powerful that's what it sounds like. This threat could probably threaten the 'multiverse'. Which is a big thing in the TV Shows of DC. Like The Flash just visited Earth-2 and that Jay Garrick is from Earth-3 from The Flash TV Show.

So with the 'cosmic' threat that is threatnning the DCTV 'Multiverse' here's what the big 'cosmic' baddie comes to mind.

First up we have

Anti-Monitor

Anti-Monitor via DC Comics
Anti-Monitor via DC Comics

Yup.I know what you are thinking guy but this is too soon to introduce because The Flash still has to go to many alternate-Earths. But Anti-Monitor has played many big roles in many storylines those are Infinite Crisis and Crisis on Infinite Earths by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. On Crisis on Infinite Earths Anti-Monitor played a big role. In that story Anti-Monitor destroyed many parallel universes or the multiverse and then creating the postive matter universe and the anti-matter universe. But to see this 'villain' we will probably have to wait a little while.

But here is the hint The Flash TV Show gave us

Earth-2 getting destroyed on The Flash season 2
Earth-2 getting destroyed on The Flash season 2

Could a Crisis happen ?

Multiverse
Multiverse

We can see that happen but it will take The Flash season 7 or season 8 to get to the threat. While the TV Show doesn't really follow the comics Earth-2 was like Earth-3 on The Flash. And Jay Garrick was from Earth-3 on The Flash. Presuming that's where JSA or Justice Society of America is. But that's topic for another day. But the show could make references or nods to the Anti-Monitor. But Anti-Monitor can also bend reality and also he has time manupulation powers.

There was another hint

Harrison Wells reading the future newspaper
Harrison Wells reading the future newspaper

As you can see there is a reference to red skies vanish in which is a clever nod to Crisis on Infinite Earths. In that storyline Barry Allen sacrifices himself to save the DC universe when Anti-Monitor launched a cannon to the core of the matter universe and Barry Allen remained dead for 20 years. That's a long time to be dead for a comic book character!

Nice wishful thinking perhaps?

Next up

Darkseid

God of Apokolips
God of Apokolips

Yes, I know what you guys are thinking!Darkeid coming to the TV Show would be awesome! But The Flash hasn't gone cosmic. But,it did focus on time-travel and alternate universes. Since,Supergirl has touched on 'aliens' it would make sense to have Darkseid on Supergirl. And,Darkseid is very powerful and he can't be easily beaten so it would make a good reason, and also he can shape reality in his way, also control people at will. He wants to conquer all of humanity. Man Darkseid is very powerful! This would make a great Supergirl villain to crossover since Darkseid has connection to Superman. This would be a great villain!

Alternatively,though

Braniac

This being is known as the "Collector of Worlds", seeking knowledge caputuring civilizations and putting them in a bottle. Brainiac has 12th level intellect which means that he has knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology and he can also create stuff. Braniac played a big role in the comics called Superman Braniac by writer Geoff Johns. Braniac also shrank the city of Kandor at Krypton. And Braniac has vast array of powers that include possesing others, abosorbing data from other beings, transferring his consciousness, creating and manupulating computer systems also telepathy, telekinesis. Since Superman is coming could we see a team-up between Superman and Supergirl?

Braniac's ancestor has already come

Supergirl is fighting Braniac 8
Supergirl is fighting Braniac 8

Now you guys must be thinking why I included Braniac because the ancestor of Braniac did come to Supergirl. Ring any bells? That's Indigo aka Braniac 8 and that's what she said

You could be the Lord of the Universe. Don't you realize what you have? You've created a force that could take over the galaxy. A vast army that exists only to do your bidding. You want to take one planet and turn it into your fiefdom, when you have an entire universe crying out to be ruled by you. To worship you as I do.

And Here's the Next Hint

Braniac's sign
Braniac's sign

After all it seems with all the teases and references it might happen. After all, the Legion of Superheros are somewhere out there in the future and one of the descendants of Braniac is Braniac 5 which is a good version of Braniac unlike Indigo. Perhaps, we can expect Legends of Tomorow to time hop to the future at some point right? And Superman was a member of Legion of Superheros too. Because we already had a descendant of Braniac so he should be the villain for the 4-part crossover on the CW.

Here's hoping....

It seems like Braniac is coming guys. Until then, see you guys next time!
