Hello everyone! I am finally back at Moviepilot/Creators after quite a while. Real quick, I just wanted to say thank you for making my last article, "Is Lor San Tekka the Son of Obi-Wan Kenobi?", my most popular one yet with over 8,400 views and counting.

If you saw that article, then you know my theory to Rey's identity was that she is the daughter of Luke Skywalker and Jyn Erso (from Rogue One) and that Jyn's parents are Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sabe (Padme's decoy handmaiden from The Phantom Menace) while Lor San Tekka was the son of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Duchess Satine Kryze. It was quite a big theory and I'm so very happy and grateful for the positive feedback I received for it.

However, a good theorist always knows to have a backup theory in case something changes. For example, Jyn Erso could die at the end of Rogue One although I do not believe she will nor do I want her to. Therefore, I have created a second theory that I will use as a backup if elements from the original theory are backfired (although I will always stand behind the original theory).

The new theory here includes bringing fan-favorite Mara Jade back into the Star Wars universe not just as Luke Skywalker's wife and Rey's mother, but also as the biological daughter of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Duchess Satine Kryze and the foster daughter of Lor San Tekka.

Sounds insane, right? Allow me to explain then...

Is this the Skywalker/Kenobi family tree?
Is this the Skywalker/Kenobi family tree?

Let's go way back to the beginning: Obi-Wan Kenobi and Duchess Satine Kryze reunited during the Clone Wars and had restarted their relationship. A lot of fans who support "Rey Kenobi" insist that a secret love child came out of that romance and was hidden away for his/her own protection. What if that secret love child is indeed Mara Jade?

Satine gives birth to a girl and miraculously, manages to do all this without anyone, especially Kenobi, finding out. Of course with the exception of her family but they had a helping hand in keeping it a secret. The baby (Mara) is put up for adoption because Satine worries if she ever knew her real parents, Kenobi would be expelled from the Jedi Order and their daughter's life may potentially be threatened for sharing the blood of a Jedi and a Mandalorian. The baby is then adopted by a Mandalorian family named the Tekkas and is given the name "Mara Jade Tekka".

Now this is where a bit of her Expanded Universe backstory comes in. During the events of A New Hope, Emperor Palpatine crashes Mandalore, kidnaps Mara and kills her foster mother in the process. Sensing how powerful she was, Palpatine brainwashes Mara and trains her to become his special agent (aka "Emperor's Hand").

After Palpatine's death at the end of Return of the Jedi, Mara attempted to avenge her master's death by killing Luke Skywalker. However, when they dueled, Luke was able to cure her brainwashing and later on, reunited her with her foster father.

The fight itself however took place on Naboo, about a few months after Ben Solo was born. Luke was visiting several different sites from throughout the prequel trilogy, desperate to know more about his parents (especially his mother). Leia, R2-D2 and C3PO all went with him while Han stayed behind and looked after his newborn son.

Arriving on Naboo, Luke and Leia met with their mother's side of the family, which included their grandparents (Ruwee and Jobal), aunt Sola, Sola's two daughters Ryoo and Pooja and their children, and learned all about their mother, specifically her position as Queen of Naboo when she was younger.

Their next trip was to Mandalore where Luke brought Mara back home to Lor San and learned much more about the Clone Wars; that his father and Obi-Wan did in fact fight together along with Yoda. Luke ended up hearing about the "rumors" that Obi-Wan was in a relationship with Satine Kryze, the Duchess of Mandalore, and may have had a secret love child with her. Luke dismisses the rumors at first until he and Leia meet with Satine's family and learn that the rumors are in fact true and that they had a helping hand in keeping the pregnancy a secret.

Luke begins to suspect that maybe Mara is the secret love child (considering she's the right age, she has the Force and Mandalorian skills, etc.) so he visits Mara's home again and talks with Lor San who reveals that Mara was in fact adopted but had no knowledge that she was the Kenobi/Kryze child. Although he promises not to tell Mara until Lor San is ready to tell her himself, Luke wants to train Mara, feeling that he owes it to Obi-Wan.

Luke begins training Mara to become a Jedi and together they open up a new Jedi school; their first student being Ben. Over the course of time, Luke and Mara fall in love. There are two issues standing in their way though: The first thing is the Jedi Code. The Jedi Code has always forbidden them from forming attachments (i.e. romance, families), but because Luke is now the leader of a new Jedi Order, he can make the new rules and one of the first things he does is erase the attachments law.

Another thing is Luke feels awkward about it because she is the daughter of his mentor. But Obi-Wan's Force ghost would then appear to Luke and assure him he has his approval. How cool would that be? Luke and Mara eventually get married and have a daughter together: Rey. The thing though is her name isn't really Rey. She was born "Padme Skywalker" in memory of Luke and Leia's mother.

Not only would this be a nod to Luke and Mara naming their son "Ben" after Obi-Wan in the Expanded Universe, but this means that both of Anakin Skywalker's grandchildren are named after the two most important people in his life: Leia's son, Ben Solo, is named after Obi-Wan Kenobi (Anakin's best friend and fellow Jedi) and Luke's daughter, Padme Skywalker, is named after Padme Amidala (Anakin's one and only true love and the mother of his two children). In addition, Ben represents Anakin's dark side while Rey/Padme represents Anakin's light side.

Her nickname, "Rey", is a short term for "Reina" which translates to "Queen" in Spanish and in this case, Rey is technically a queen, being galactic royalty. She is the granddaughter of both Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi and because of this, she easily overpowers her older cousin. This is when Snoke (aka Darth Plagueis) slowly begins seducing Ben to the dark side.

Finally, when Ben becomes Kylo Ren, he and the Knights of Ren slaughter every single one of Luke's Jedi students by the end of the stormy night. Luke and Mara hide Rey and battle the Knights together, killing some of them and severely injuring the rest. But Kylo was too fast for them and managed to kill Mara. This angers Luke, who held Mara in his arms as she died, and caused him to attack his nephew. He can't bring himself to kill him despite the rage he's feeling, so he simply injures Kylo to the point where he cannot move or use the Force.

Luke takes Rey, as well as R2-D2 and Mara's body, and leaves to visit Lor San who has moved to Jakku to be closer to his family. Prior to owning his own shop, Uknar Plutt worked for him as his housekeeper. As part of a plan to keep Rey safe from Kylo and the First Order, Luke asks Lor San to take care of her for a while. They spend the rest of the night at Lor San's home where Luke cremates Mara. Therefore, explaining this scene...

While she is sleeping, Luke erases Rey's memory so that she has no knowledge of the Force or her family whatsoever. The next morning, Rey sees Luke leaving and because her memory is erased, she doesn't know who he is. Luke simply tells her he is a very close friend of her family and that her family will return for her eventually. As Luke and R2-D2 leave on his ship, a teary-eyed and confused Rey runs after him, but ends up being dragged away by Plutt.

NO!!! Come back!!! NO!!!!!!
NO!!! Come back!!! NO!!!!!!

After dropping R2-D2 off at the Resistance, Luke says goodbye to him, C3PO, Han and Leia. Before he leaves, Luke tells them that he has left a map to the first Jedi Temple where he intends to hide out, but he doesn't tell them the name of the planet (Ahch-Tu). He's already left half of the map data in R2-D2's system and the other half in Lor San's hands while they were on Jakku; R2-D2 has went into low power mode so that the files cannot be accessed. Luke says the map cannot be put together until the future when Rey is an adult and wants her to be the one to find him on Ahch-Tu.

Cut to years later. Now that Rey is approximately nineteen (the same age as Luke during A New Hope), Leia feels it is time to bring both her and Luke home. She sends Poe Dameron and BB-8 out to Jakku to meet with Lor San and get the last piece of the map. The plan was for Lor San to bring Rey -- who had moved out a year prior -- along with them to the Resistance, learn where her father is and then be sent to reunite with him. However, Kylo somehow learned about the map and the First Order attacked Jakku. Lor San was killed and Poe was arrested.

That was until a Stormtrooper by the name of "FN-2187" rescued Poe and abandoned the First Order. In return, Poe gave him a real name: "Finn". After they crashed, Finn landed on Jakku where he met with Rey, who had just rescued BB-8.

After a second attack on Jakku, Kylo learned from an Imperial officer that a "girl" helped Finn and BB-8 escape. Kylo starts to get the sense that it is his younger cousin. Later on in the film, Kylo finds Rey and abducts her. Realizing she had her memory erased, Kylo intends to play along with the idea that she is just a random scavenger; he does remove his mask however, hoping that it might trigger something.

Knowing that she had seen (part of) the map earlier, Kylo attempts to get it out of her, but Rey manages to overpower him and learns his deepest fear: That he will never live up to their grandfather. Kylo brings Rey up to Snoke / Plagueis, who seems to be interested in her power. He asks Kylo to bring her to him, but by that time, Rey has escaped, having used a Jedi mind trick on a Stormtrooper like her grandfather Kenobi did.

After witnessing Kylo kill Han, Chewbacca bombs the First Order base and allows for Rey and Finn to escape. But Kylo makes it there before them and knocks out Rey. Finn takes the Skywalker lightsaber (which had called out to Rey earlier) and battles Kylo, but is defeated and severely injured in the process. Kylo tries using the Force to grab it, but the lightsaber makes its way to Rey. That's when Kylo realizes it is indeed his younger cousin. He had that "It is you" look on his face. Kylo and Rey fight and Rey manages to overpower him once again, this time, leaving him beaten and scarred.

By the end of the film, R2-D2 finally awakens after sensing Rey's presence and the map is put together. Leia keeps her promise and sends Rey out to Ahch-Tu, along with Chewbacca and R2-D2, to find Luke. When they arrive, Rey manages to find him and holds out the very same lightsaber that belonged to him and Anakin, but when she sees him, she sees the face of the man who promised that her family would return for her. And Luke sees his daughter all grown up standing right in front of him.

Alright, I'll go ahead and wrap it up right there. As I said earlier, I still believe the original theory and I'm so very happy and grateful for the positive feedback I got on it, but every good theorist always needs a backup theory just in case and I say this is just as perfect.

One minor issue I would like to get out of the way is Mara and Rey's hair color. Mara would probably be a redhead like in the Expanded Universe while Luke is blonde and Rey is brown. But I say that maybe red isn't Mara's actual hair color; maybe she dyed it as she grew up. In fact, I'll bet you right now that Satine's real hair color isn't even blonde.

Again, thank you very much for reading. I'm glad to be back. Leave me your thoughts down below and be on the lookout for more articles to come...
