A few months ago, I was watching The Dark Knight (2008) when I was left with one of the most irritating thoughts ever - why do you look so familiar, and where the hell have I seen you before? It was Commissioner Gordon, someone I knew was played by Gary Oldman. But it wasn't a case of where have I seen Gary Oldman before, but more of a case of where I had seen Commissioner Gordon before?

Now that may sound stupid, but he looked so familiar that I was racking my brains for some time afterwards. Initially I had in the back of my head that he looked like Harvey Keitel's character Jacob Fuller in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). But after a quick internet search, it clearly wasn't.

Then it dawned on me, Commissioner Gordon was, in fact, the spitting image of Ned Flanders from The Simpsons (1989– )! Naturally, this got me thinking as to which other characters in The Dark Knight (2008) had remarkable resemblances to characters in The Simpsons.

The results may surprise you!

Commissioner Gordon and Ned Flanders

Does Commissioner Gordon face organized crime and random violence with the help of his best friend Christ the Lord? You're dang-darn-diddly right he does!

The Joker and Krusty the Clown

Hey, hey! As you know, madness is like gravity...all it takes is a little push. And if you put Krusty in a green waste coat and and let Kim Kardashian do his make-up, the madness undeniably results in The Joker!

Gambol and Drederick Tatum

Could you give Gotham City's African-American mob boss one reason why he shouldn't have his boy here pull your head off? If he is anything like former Olympic Gold medalist, Drederick Tatum, I certainly couldn't.

Maroni and Vance Connor

Salvatore "Sal" Maroni was Gotham City's Italian mob boss, but could he also be moonlighting as a former class president of Springfield High School?

Dr. Jonathan Crane and Frank Grimes

Dr. Jonathan Crane wears a burlap sack with a hangman's noose dangling around his neck as the villainous 'Scarecrow'. But under the disguise, could it actually be Frank Grimes? If you recall, Grimes was a bit of a bad guy, and famously got electrocuted by some high-voltage power cables, leaving him with significant burns. In order to hide this disfigurement, could he don a sack and terrorize Gotham City as 'Scarecrow'?

Rachel Dawes and Maya

She was going to marry Harvey Dent, but also had a thing for Bruce Wayne. But has Rachel Dawes previously turned up as a love interest for Moe Szyslak? The bartender at Moe's Tavern once dated Maya, whom he met over the internet. Standing at about three feet tall, could Maya have worn extremely high heels in order to kiss the Dark Knight?

The Mayor and Johnny Tightlips

Is Mayor Anthony Garcia secretly a nasty piece of work? His resemblance to Johnny Tightlips, who works for the D'Amico crime family, may make you wonder.

Alfred and Kent Brockman

Ever wondered how inept local TV news reporter Kent Brockman gets all the breaking stories? Is it becuase he is secretly Bruce Wayne's confidant, Alfred Pennyworth?

Harvey Dent and Rainier Wolfcastle

The newly elected district attorney of Gotham City needs to go up and atom, or just up and at them, if he doesn't want us to realize he is the spitting image of Austrian musclebound actor, Rainier Wolfcastle.

The Chechen and John

The Chechen who, was a top gangster and Gotham City's Chechen mob boss, may have a completely different alter-ego. Is it possible that he was the gay owner of Cockamamie's Collectibles Shop too?

So, what do you guys think? Is The Dark Knight (2008) secretly based on The Simpsons (1989– ) or vice versa? Sound off in the comments section below to voice your opinions!
