Practice your whistling and polish your badges, because it looks like The X-Files is coming back sooner than we all expected. The acclaimed series was a huge hit during its original run, lasting nine seasons, as well as having two movies that were box office successes upon release. And we were happy to see stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return to the roles of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for Fox's revival of the show last winter.
The revival may have taken a few episodes to hit its stride with critics, but it was always a hit with audiences, setting records in the ratings and earning rave reviews from fans of the original series. Well those fans better get ready, as both the network and Mulder himself are getting ready for more episodes.

TVLine reported that Fox is in "significant talks" to make more of the fan favorite series, and at a recent event for the Television Critics Association summer press tour Fox entertainment president David Madden said:
"We would obviously love to do another season, [but] schedules are hard. We're working hard to get this done."
To add to that, Anderson celebrated her birthday on Tuesday, and in his birthday wish to his longtime co-star, Duchovny also gave a really big hint that these talks are going pretty well.
We want to believe that the series will return, and thankfully Madden is a voice we can believe. Duchovny's support only boosts our hope that The X-Files will return.
