Warner Brothers DC Universe has been for the most part critically panned, divided the fan base, and has had a storm of controversy surrounding it. That being said it is still moving forward and rightly so. Wonder Woman and Justice League are just around the corner in 2017 and both have a great deal of, dare I say it, Hope (House of El shout out) involved in these projects. With the Justice League line up of Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Flash, Superman, and Aquaman It would seem that this group of superheroes has a lot of pressure on them. Even more so than Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Justice League Comic-Con trailer seems to have a much lighter tone than the almost anhedonic Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The stand out and almost sole focus of the trailer is Jason Mamoa's Aquaman. Now most DC comic book readers and Justice League Unlimited know that The King of Atlantis is an overall bad ass (He cut his own hand off to save his son!)

However the general public does not appear to think so. In popular media Aquaman is a little more than the butt of most jokes. If you asked a regular old joe on the street, "Hey, what do you know about Aquaman?". The Reaction would almost always be "He talks to fish right?". A lot of this has to do with the classic Super Friends cartoon. I mean he did ride a seahorse and flying fish which wasn't doing him any favors.

The Justice League trailer in its short run time did one thing that is priceless to the DCEU. It made Aquaman look awesome. Large part of that is Jason Mamoa's giant presence (6'4" 240 lb) and "I could definitely kill you" attitude. This casting is brilliant and has created a lot of buzz for his James Wan directed solo film and rightfully so.

Aquaman is seeming to be the most reluctant to join are merry band of superheroes as The Batfleck tells us in the trailer that he turned down his offer. However this only makes me more intrigued as to what his role is going to be. I mean he does have an army. A really big army. His domain covers 70% of the planet. So saving the planet is in his best interest. It also needs to be said that Aquaman is probably upset about the events in the Indian Ocean in Man of Steel. The world engine was bound to cause some damage to the ocean.

More than that Aquaman will have a much bigger impact than any other character in the DCEU. If Warner Brothers and DC is successful it will increase the brand and give validity to the idea that characters are the driving force behind comic book movies. The action and spectacle of them is awe-inspiring but what makes them great is character and story. If the powers that be can pull off one of the biggest jokes of a character in Aquaman than there is hope. Now the DCEU is still very young and appears to be getting stronger but I feel Justice League is the big test. If the trailer is any indication than Aquaman is going to be the stand out of that movie (Much like Wonder Woman in BvS). In my oh so humble opinion I feel that Aquaman is the true test as to what WB and DC is capable of, a lynch pin if you will.

So does the DCEU rest on Aquaman's shoulders? Is there hope? What are you most excited for in the DCEU? Well I leave it o the fans to decide. Let me below in the comments what you think!
