Ever since she was a little girl, Angelina Jolie has been destined for great things, having appeared in her first movie role at the young age of 5-years-old. Way before she was kicking some serious butt as Lara Croft, scooping up an Academy Award for Girl, Interrupted and setting the story straight about a scorned fairy of pure heart in Disney's Maleficent, the actress starred in Lookin' to Get Out.

Appearing alongside her father Jon Voight back in the 1982 movie, it was the first time global audiences were introduced to Angie. Here she is at an incredibly young age:

Indeed, Angelina has come a very long way since her days as a youngster trying to make her way in Hollywood. Today, she continues to be one of the most sought-after actresses in the business, a devoted humanitarian and a mother to a small army of beautiful children.

And now with her second stint as the dark fairy Maleficent just around the corner, let's take a moment to look back on Jolie's illustrious career by reminding ourselves of the feature-length movies she starred in at a young age. Y'know, just before she was a brother snogging, blood-vial-wearing bad gal:

1. Without Evidence

  • Age: 20

  • Year: 1995

  • Role: Jodie Swearingen

Despite garnering a decent amount of acting experience in a couple of movie shorts and music videos at a young age, Without Evidence was essentially the role that began to get her noticed in Hollywood. Starring alongside Scott Plank, Anna Gunn and Andrew Prince, the story cast a glance over the potential conspiracy surrounding the murder of the head of a correctional center in Oregon. At the age of 20, this was certainly a serious role for a serious young lady.

2. Hackers

  • Role: Kate

It's hard to believe that it's been over twenty years since we first set eyes on Angie in Hackers, a movie about a group framed for embezzlement and a raging computer virus. If Without Evidence was the role that pinpointed her on the map for potential casting agents, Hackers was the feature that cemented her position as leading lady.

In her first major appearance on the big screen, Angelina played brain-box Kate Libby (otherwise known as Acid Burn), who also happened to wear tight-fitting trousers and tiny tops — a fact that we might welcomed, but something Angie actually went on to criticise in a 1996 interview with Empire Magazine, saying:

"I seem to be getting a lot of things pushed my way that are strong women, but the wrong type of strong women. It's like people see Hackers and they send me offers to play tough women with guns, the kind who wear no bra and a little tank top."

3. Love Is All There Is

  • Year: 1996

  • Role: Gina Malacici

At the young age of 21, Angelina went in a slightly different direction, casting her attention on an adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Unlike many previous interpretations though, this was a more modern spin showcasing the deadly feud between the Cappamezzas and Malacicis. The R-rated Love Is All There Is catapulted her into the heart of the Bronx, in the leading role of Gina.

4. Foxfire

  • Year: 1996

  • Role: Legs Sadovsky

Angelina returned the same year, with her midriff out once again in true '90s fashion in Foxfire, a movie about five teenage girls who beat the sh*t out of a teacher that sexually harassed them. In this bad-ass role, it saw the little lady standing up for her friends and throwing daggers in the shapes of naughty swear words right, left and center.

5. Mojave Moon

  • Age: 21

  • Year: 1996

  • Role: Eleanor 'Ellie' Rigby

Mojave Moon saw Angelina step into another daring role as Ellie, an attractive young girl who meets a 53-year-old car salesman in a local coffee shop. After escorting her to her desert trailer, the sales man, Al, stumbles into romance with Elle's mother Julie. Oh, and he also happens to find a dead body in his trunk afterwards. As you can probably imagine, things start to spiral out of control at a very rapid pace:

  • Age: 22

  • Year: 1997

  • Role: Claire

As Claire, Angie appeared opposite The X-Files star David Duchovny at the young age of 22. Playing God is all about the life of surgeon who has his medical license taken away after he is caught operating under the influence of drugs. Following an encounter with a crime boss at a bar, Eugene Sands becomes his personal physician. Getting entangled with mob lord's beautiful girlfriend Claire (played by Jolie), he is lured into a dangerous criminal world of blackmail.

7. Hell's Kitchen

  • Age: 23

  • Year: 1998

  • Role: Gloria

Despite her young age, Angelina Jolie had certainly accumulated quite an impressive number of roles by the end of the '90s. And 1998 feature Hell's Kitchen was yet another example of her love affair with the hard-edged crime genre.

Directed by Tony Cinciripini, the actress went blonde as Gloria, a woman in the midst of a failed robbery who goes on to enact revenge on her former lover. Another role in which Angie gives a solid performance.
