Marvel may have their Cinematic Universe making millions at the box office, but over on television, they're also cultivating their own Animated Universe, featuring Avengers Assemble, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ultimate Spider-Man. The joy of an animated universe is being able to portray death-defying stunts and unique concepts without breaking the budget. The MCAU are taking full advantage of this — they're tackling storylines and introducing characters that have never been broached on-screen before.

One example of this is Season Four of Ultimate Spider-Man, titled Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man vs. the Sinister Six. The season will head towards a finale with a four-part arc, that will introduce one the newest Spider-Man additions...

The arc, entitled 'Return to the Spider-Verse', will see Spider-Man joined by Miles Morales and other counterparts from alternate realities. As well as Spider-Gwen, we'll see Spider-Man Noir and new versions like a cowboy (Web Slinger), a pirate (Web Beard), Wolf-Spider, Blood-Spider and more.

In the Spider-Verse comic saga, we saw all versions of Spider-Man in the multiverse being attacked — including Earth-65, where a teenager was bitten by a radioactive spider on a field trip. But it wasn't Peter Parker, it was Gwen Stacey!

Spider-Gwen quickly became a fan favorite and it wasn't long before she headlined her own Spider-Gwen comic book, created by Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez, starting in February 2015.

The character has even made her way into merchandise, with Funko recently releasing Pop! Vinyls of the character.
