We won't have to wait much longer for the Season 4 premiere of Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Tuesday, September 20, but we've been able to sink our teeth into tasty sneak peeks and promos, all of which provide some small insight into what Season 4 has in store for us.

Most of the promos so far have been geared towards Robbie Reyes's Ghost Rider, who'll make his debut on Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season. However, the newest sneak peek into the Season 4 premiere has provided us with a few particular details that explains what Daisy Johnson's (a.k.a. Quake's) motivations are in the new season.

Is Daisy Johnson Really A "Rogue" Or Is She Trying To Save People?

Daisy doesn't make an appearance in the newest Season 4 sneak peek but the dialogue between Mack, Coulson and Agent May in the scene tells the tale of Daisy Johnson's activities since we last saw her in the "6 Months Later" clip of Season 3.

The sneak peek includes some dialogue in which Agent May doesn't seem to be backing Daisy up anymore, as May quickly reasons out Daisy's actions of taking down buildings and destroying bridges as an indicator of Daisy going rogue. In the exchange, May is quickly rebutted by Coulson and Mack, both going on to explain that Daisy has been on the search for the "Watchdogs," the criminal enterprise responsible for illegitimately hunting down Enhanced, specifically Inhumans.

Who Are The Watchdogs?

In Season 3 of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Watchdogs were introduced as an informal militia hellbent on killing all Inhumans, but what the Watchdogs didn't count on was Inhumans like Quake and Hellfire fighting back. Now it looks like Daisy has been busy eliminating the Watchdogs since her departure from S.H.I.E.L.D.

Chloe Bennet Explains Why Daisy Left S.H.I.E.L.D.

During the Season 3 hiatus, the actress who portrays Daisy, Chloe Bennet, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Daisy's main reason for leaving S.H.I.E.L.D. during Season 3 was Lincoln's untimely death during the finale. Here's what Bennet had to say to EW:

Everyone she’s gotten close to has died, her way of protecting the people that she cares about — which is Coulson and the rest of the team — is to distance herself. She’s doing anything she can to help people and try to make up for what she feels is her fault. I don’t think she’s necessarily working against S.H.I.E.L.D., she’s Robin Hood-ing it. My favorite part about playing Daisy is her empathy for people. I’d like to think that she is doing what she’s doing because she wants to help.

Bennett also added this tidbit on where the new season is heading:

We’ve had some major losses of people who have been with us on the show since Season 1. From the table read to the first day on set, there’s definitely a new energy of the show and it feels different and it is different.

Regardless of all the new information made available to us in that excerpt, the reason behind why Daisy has been knocking down banks and bridges after her departure from S.H.I.E.L.D. mainly has to do with her goal of taking down the Watchdogs. Taking a look back at the "6 Months Later" clip, we can see Daisy has been quite busy laying waste to the Watchdogs' plans.

Is Daisy Only Embracing Her Identity As "Quake" To Thwart The Watchdogs?

Daisy's mayhem has been documented by Mack and Coulson as they've searched for her, evident by the "6 Months Later" clip. (Although the clip itself didn't give any context to the situation or how Daisy is involved.)

However, the newest sneak peek into Season 4 tells us all we need to know to figure out why Daisy has been knocking down bridges and taking down banks.

Will The Watchdogs Play A More Pivotal Role In Season 4?

It also appears that the Watchdogs will be heavily featured in the upcoming season of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., and their resurgence will likely contribute to the deaths of more Inhumans, made apparent by the dialogue in the Season 4 sneak peek:

Coulson: "Oh come on, we both know that she (Daisy) is tracking these fanatics, the Watchdogs. Trying to take down their funding, their escape routes."

May: "Regardless, you should fuel up and get back in the air ASAP."

Going back to Daisy's motivation to stop the Watchdogs from murdering her Inhuman brethren, there may be another obstacle standing in Daisy's way — an obstacle that'll require that she return to S.H.I.E.L.D. in order to stop the genocide of Inhumans. That obstacle being the bold agenda initiated by the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Could The New S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Recruit The Watchdogs To Hunt Daisy?

You're probably asking why the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. would be associated with helping the Watchdogs capture/eliminate all Inhumans? The simple explanation for that can be found in the dialogue of the new sneak peek.

The dialogue also provides us with some insight into what direction the new direction is taking the agency, specifically a more ruthless approach to eliminate the Inhuman "problem". Here's the conversation between Agent Coulson, Mack and May in regards to the new director, calling for Daisy's assassination:

Mack: "[A]nd the armed forces will be sent in after her."

May: "With orders to kill."

Coulson: "Orders to kill?"

May: "If she's responsible for these bodies."

Coulson: "That's not Daisy's MO."

May: "The world knows her as Quake, and Quake is an outlaw that takes down banks and bridges."

It's apparent that the new director's initiative to capture Daisy comes with a shoot-on-sight order, which means two very important things: 1) Daisy is no longer an asset looking to be acquired by S.H.I.E.L.D., and 2) the new director has no reluctance towards calling for Daisy's assassination, which also implies that he could share a similar sentiment towards all Inhumans.

Both of those facts can be deemed irrelevant because motives can change and people can learn from their mistakes. However, the episode synopsis for Episode 2, "Meet The New Boss," could see the new director take his initial plan to eliminate Daisy one step further. Here's the synopsis:

In "Meet the New Boss,” Daisy sets out to battle Ghost Rider, but at a terrible cost; the new director's bold agenda shocks everyone.

The synopsis doesn't say very much, but the subtext behind "the director's bold agenda shocks everyone" tells us that the new director has some insidious plan in mind. And it seems that he's going to be a bit hasty with this plan.

Knowing that the Enhanced/Inhuman problem is still relevant in the upcoming season, as well as the Watchdogs resurfacing, the new director's bold agenda probably alludes to him recruiting the Watchdog militia in an effort to completely eradicate the Enhanced/Inhuman population around the world.

In accordance with the dialogue in the sneak peek, both the Watchdogs and the new Director share similar sentiments towards Enhanced, which means their interests in eliminating Enhanced are probably aligned.

That being said, the Episode 2 synopsis is probably hinting at the director inducting the Watchdogs into S.H.I.E.L.D. as a legitimate entity, at the same time imbuing them with the right to shoot-on-sight orders for Daisy and any other Enhanced/Inhumans.

In that potential scenario, Daisy would be quick to step up and save her Inhuman brethren. Although, Daisy is probably going to have to return to her old teammates at S.H.I.E.L.D. for help, in order to save the Inhuman people now that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been re-legitimized and potentially on the hunt for Inhumans.

Does Daisy Have A Grander Plan For Her Inhuman Brethren?

Something to also take note of is how intent Daisy is on saving the Inhuman people. Since Daisy became an Inhuman, she's really taken to saving her kind. With Daisy spending so much time and effort in saving all of the Inhumans she can, is it possible her story arc is leading her in the direction of a leader who unifies the Inhuman race Potentially even creating the Inhuman state of Attilan?

Daisy has the ability to move mountains; she could easily use her abilities to create a sanctuary out of an unknown landmass for her people — but that's just speculation until we see Daisy take on the role of leader.

For now, we'll just have to wait and see what degree of effort Daisy will put into saving the Inhuman people in the upcoming season of Agents Of SHIELD, because it looks like both the Watchdogs and S.H.I.E.L.D. are on acquisition/kill orders for all Enhanced/Inhumans, so the Inhuman people are definitely going to need Daisy's help if they want to survive.
