(Note: The following contains spoilers for Doctor Strange.)
When trailers and TV Spots for the Doctor Strange movie were released with scenes of the Sorcerer Supreme reversing time with a glowing green artifact hanging from his neck, fans immediately began to suspect another Infinity Stone -- one of the five objects that hold incredible power over physical laws, and are thus desired by Marvel's cosmic Big Bad, Thanos -- would be revealed in the film.
(The below trailer was pretty much all the confirmation we needed.)

The Eye Of Agamotto Is The Time Stone
The Stone was revealed to be first used by the first Sorcerer Supreme, Agamotto. The Ancient One then safeguarded it against mystical use due to the imbalance it would bring to the laws of Nature.
At first, it was believed that the Ancient One was using the Time Stone to prolong her life, but it was later revealed that she was actually harnessing power from Dormammu’s Dark Dimension.
The revelation of the Time Stone means that #Thanos still needs to come to Earth to retrieve his Infinity Stones. This puts #Dormammu as a more dangerous threat than Thanos. Simply, because Dormammu, according to Doctor Strange, can’t be defeated.
Doctor Strange In Thor: Ragnarok And Avengers: Infinity War
Thanos needs to collect all the Infinity Stones in order to use the full power of his gauntlet. This brings us then to the Time Stone’s next appearance. It's currently safely stored at Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, but it may end up in the hands of Thanos very soon as he may snatch it from Strange’s New York mystical home.
However, Thanos may have an opportunity to grab the stone in Asgard if Strange travels there with the amulet while he's teaming up with Thor in his quest to find Odin. (Their future on-screen team-up was set up during the first Doctor Strange end-credits scene.)
Strange’s appearance in the upcoming #ThorRagnarok could be minimal as we only got a hint of what his involvement will be from the Doctor Strange's end-credits scene, but if he brings the Time Stone with him, it could end up in evil hands before the film's end.
If not, we know the Sorcerer Supreme will be returning the next Avengers sequel. During the Los Angeles press conference for Doctor Strange, in what became the perfect finale to the event, Kevin Feige confirmed Strange would be back.
“Benedict [Cumberbatch] puts on the cloak again early next year in Avengers: Infinity War.”
But What About The Last Infinity Stone?
Now there is only one Infinity Stone left to discover in the MCU, the Soul Stone. We could either see the Soul Stone in Thor: Ragnarok (via Heimdall) or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (though James Gunn denies it), but my guess is that it will appear during #AvengersInfinityWar and Thanos could already be in possession of it.
The Soul Stone could also play an even bigger role in upcoming films in the MCU as one possible storyline that could unfold would be Captain Marvel inheriting her powers from an Infinity Stone, which would then lead to her solo movie, #CaptainMarvel.
However, even if Thanos already has the Soul Stone he'll still have an uphill battle to collect rest of them that are scattered throughout the MCU.
To review, the Infinity Stones that have been revealed in the films are currently hidden away in these locations:
- The Space Stone (Tesserac): Currently in Asgard
- The Mind Stone: Currently in Vision’s Forehead
- The Reality Stone (Eather): Currently with The Collector
- Power Stone (Orb): Currently with the Nova Corp in Xandar
- Time Stone (Eye of Agamotto): Currently in the Sanctum Sanctorum
Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange is here to stay and we'll likely we'll see him in a significant role next year in Thor: Ragnarok, but will that mean he'll bring the Time Stone with him and could he lose it to Thanos in that film?
The Mad Titan might not get his golden gauntlet on any of the Infinity Stones until #Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War -- Where we'll see Strange again -- but one thing is for sure, it's about to go down.
Do you think Strange will lose the Time Stone in Thor: Ragnarok and just where will see the last Infinity Stone?
