Quirky Writer With Impressive Twitter Following Sells 'Son Of A Bitch' Script To Warner Bros.
Never underestimate the power of self-promotion... Writer Kelly Oxford has harnessed the powers of Twitter and built a pretty impressive following around her quirky observations on pop culture and life with three kids. And let's just say she's apparently witty enough to count Diablo Cody, Howard Stern, Jimmy Kimmel, Jonah Hill, and Jason Segel among her followers.
Warner Bros. has now taken an interest in her and Deadline reports that they've made a 'low to mid six-figure deal' for her comedy script Son Of A Bitch. The title seems to be meant quite literally, as the story is about a young stoner who tries to remain the popular party girl even after she gets pregnant (which clearly wasn't part of the plan...)
The script is described as 'in the vein of Bridesmaids', which is a pretty winning tag to milk right now. Steve Golin —producer of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Babel, and the upcoming Seeking a Friend for the End of the World —developed the project with New Moon and Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist producer Kerry Kohansky-Roberts. Sounds like some good people really threw their weight behind Son Of A Bitch and made the Warner Bros offer happen.
As for Oxford, she isn't a total novice and has apparently sold some TV pilot scripts to CBS and NBC. She's also publishing a book of humorous essays called Everything Is Perfect When You're A Liar.
