Christian Bale Set To Climb 'Everest' (In A Movie, Obviously)
After climbing a mountain to learn the secrets of the League of Shadows in Batman Begins, Christian Bale is now set to scale the heights of the world's highest peak in Everest. According to Deadline, Bale is in negotiations to star in the movie, with Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband) attached to direct.
The movie is based partly on Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air, a first-hand account of a disastrous expedition to scale Everest in 1996. As three rival tour groups competed to reach the summit, a rogue storm swept through claiming the lives of eight climbers.
Everest is in the very capable (and cold-resistant) hands of Icelandic director Kormákur, who's just come off the back of filming The Deep (Djúpið), the true-life story of a fisherman who survived for hours in the freezing waters off Iceland after his boat capsized. He also has 2 Guns (wrong), starring Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington, coming out later this year.
This though is not the only movie featuring man's passion to conquer the mountain, as Tom Hardy is also set to star in a movie named Everest. This one is about the famous mountaineer George Mallory, who tried three times in the 1920s to become the first man to reach the summit.
Here's a thought then. Instead of having two different Everest movies (which is already confusing me), let's have Bale and Hardy star in the same movie, name it something like Everest Rises, and have Bane and Batman battle their way to the top, before having the mother-of-all fights at the summit. Now that's a movie I would be all in for.
