One of the best parts about working for a film website is that I get to write about guilty pleasures, like which hunk could be up for the part of enigmatic-young-billionaire-with-an-S&M-fetish Christian Grey in the big screen adaptation of E.L. James' steamy novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

Well, The Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder dropped by Ryan Seacrest's radio show on Monday morning and hinted that he could be a possible candidate:  

That would be a pretty incredible thing, and hopefully that could pan out.

That's obviously a far cry from being a confirmation, but the fact that Seacrest would ask him about it indicates that Somerhalder is at least being considered for the role. And he is 'absolutely' interested, from the sounds of it: 

Beyond the shadow of a doubt I think that would be a phenomenal opportunity.

With his boyish good looks and steely eyes, Somerhalder certainly looks the part, but he's also got a sense of mystery about him that gives him a certain edge over Hollywood's other pretty boys. He already has a loyal female following thanks to The Vampire Diaries, and many a woman would bend over at his command, which is definitely a quality required for anyone hoping to play Christian… 

Fifty Shades of Grey is the latest literary sensation to be getting a film treatment. The book is the first in a trilogy that chronicles the 'love' story between mousy college student Anastasia Steele and billionaire tycoon Christian Grey—complete with whips, chains and the kind of sex scenes that has everyone wondering how this movie can turn out to be anything less than a porno…
