Enthusiasm everywhere! We are insanely energized about the forthcoming sci-fi movie project from Rian Johnson, Looper. And, according to GeekTyrant, so is the star Bruce Willis.
Willis has a few movies in the pipeline at the moment, including Stephen Frears’ Lay the Favorite , which received a lot of exposure at the Sundance Film Festival. But according to a recent interview, Willis just can’t get enough of this Looper project! He plays a character who flirts with time travel an activity which is only available on the black market. What’s more, without giving too much away, his younger self is played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Are you following? Good, because Willis wants you to love it as much as he does.
Until now, Willis has been pretty mum, but in a recent interview, he whipped this out of the bag:
Its better than anything Ive ever doneRian did an amazing thing. He conceived an original story. He wrote it, sold it, stuck with it, directed it, and finished it… Thats just tough to do in this town. Someone always weasels into the process. That didnt happen here. And if he never did anything else except that Herculean effort, hed have made it in the business. Amazing.
Strong words! We agree with Willis about Rian Johnson’s awesomeness. He’s one of the most talented, unsung heroes in the business, with movies including Brick and Brothers Bloom behind him. Why does Bruce love the plot of this futuristic sci-fi movie, though?
Its more than an original story. Its a story people are going to talk about, and see twice. And argue about. I was arguing with myself about the story when I read it the first time. Thats all Rian Johnson, beginning to end. Great, great director.
Sounds like a blossoming working relationship for those two. Willis has certainly been in a fair few movies, but we can’t recall a time when we heard him speak so highly of one. Is this a good omen for Looper?
