According to CinemaBlend, Greg Mottola is in negotiations with the legend that is Larry David, the man behind and star of Curb Your Enthusiam. Mottola will be directing a script written, somewhat loosely, by David.

Apparently, the new project will, like Curb, follow an improvisation-based storyline. That probably means that its going to be as ridiculous as we hoped. Curb was largely improvised and in it we got to see hopeless Larry David telling his best friend’s daughter to ‘shut the f*** up’, mincing around in other people’s underwear, getting small children drunk, stealing dogs, and generally offending minority groups. All by accident.

It is hard for us to imagine David in an improv-based role as anything other than Larry David character. Especially as Larry has hammered out the story with Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel all of whom are Curb veterans. The three guys also worked together with Sacha Baron Cohen on The Dictator All three also worked with Sacha Baron Cohen on The Dictator, which might be a good model for how this comedy will unravel.

Although Greg Mottola never worked on Curb, he’s got plenty of experience in comedy, from shows like Undeclared and the other great family-based side-splitter Arrested Development. Mottola is also in plans for The Marriage Plot, which is Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jeffrey Eugendies novel. We’re guessing he’ll be focusing a lot of energy of that, too, so we’ll have to see how his new Larry David collaboration fits in with that! No doubt, though, this will be a triumphant victory for ridiculous comedy.
