Anne Hathaway did her best, Emily Blunt stole the few scenes she was in, but it’s undeniable that The Devil Wears Prada was Meryl Streep’s movie. Now, author Lauren Weisberger, who wrote the original novel, is working on a follow-up called Revenge Wears Prada.
The book itself won’t hit shelves until next year, but all eyes are already on the possible movie adaptation. The bigger question is: Will Streep return as the complex and cutthroat Miranda Priestly?
Access Hollywood caught up with the lady herself at the Crystal + Lucy Awards and got Streep’s thoughts on reprising the iconic role (from 3:35, via Huffpost):
Charming weight loss comments aside, could Streep have let something slip that she wasn’t supposed to? When asked about the sequel, she immediately replies, ‘yes’, but then, as if remembering some confidentiality clause, quickly changes her tune and plays innocent. For such a good actress, she’s really a terrible liar.
The sequel, if it does go ahead, will pick up with Miranda eight years after her tortured assistant, Andy Sachs, unceremoniously threw her BlackBerry into a Parisian fountain and walked away from the fashion world. With a title like Revenge Wears Prada, I think it’s safe to say that the Dragon Lady hasn’t forgotten the incident.
