In typical Christopher Nolan fashion, The Dark Knight Rises

plot details are few and far between. So, left to our own devices, we’ve resorted to scouring the soundtrack for possible clues with some interesting results.

Ominous doesn’t begin to describe Track 1: ‘A Storm Is Coming’. A perfect opener to a Batman-free Gotham under threat.

Track 2: ‘On Thin Ice’ is reminiscent of the scene in Batman Begins where Ra’s Al Ghul (Liam Neeson) and Bruce Wayne fight and Bruce falls through the ice, could this be the soundtrack to Ra’s return?

As Bane told us himself, he is Gotham’s reckoning… and now he has a song about it! Track 3 is the perfect introduction to the Batman’s latest foe.

Track 4: Takes us back to the genteel world of Bruce Wayne and the perfect introduction to Selena Kyle, aka Catwoman.

Things really kick off for Tracks 5 and 6. Bane needs an army and if names like, well, ‘Underground Army’ and ‘Born In Darkness’ are anything to go by he’ll find it!

Track 7: ‘The Fire Rises’ seems like a perfect fit for the mayhem and panic caused by, oh say, a stadium being blown to smithereens?

Gotham is in peril and Batman is nowhere to be found, Tracks 8 to 10, especially the aptly titled, ‘Despair’ pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Tracks 11 to 14 will hopefully form the soundtrack to some awesome Bat-action, the likes of which have never be seen before and then BAM! credits roll over the ethereal ‘Rise’.

Listen to the first 30 seconds of each track below, with thanks to Comic Book Movie. You may even feature in one of them if you took up Hans Zimmer’s offer a few months ago!

TDKR and it’s haunting soundtrack hit cinemas July 20th.
