Ever since I saw the 1995 film adaptation of grandaddy of all fighting games: Mortal Kombat, I’ve been a little disappointed. The movie is good, but it could be done even better with today’s modern CGI techniques and all the developments in filming real, brutal martial arts action. Then there was the short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, and the subsequent web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy which were proof of the concept. Sure, they moved away from the original story line quite a lot a touch too controversial for some but they were really, really good.
Following on from the excitement surrounding those we’ve got the plot synopsis of the full film from BloodyDisgusting. I’m a little lost for words, myself. What do you make of this?
The live-action reboot will follow a lowly unlucky supermarket employee who discovers that he has out of this world powers and must decide between good and evil, even though the evil side has helped him discover his true potential and who he really is
If the decisions made by the Machinima series were controversial, then the decision to have a protagonist who works in a supermarket is mind-blowing. What are director Kevin Tancharoen and writer Oren Uziel thinking? So far the only discussions on the project have been about whether or not the film should be R-rated; if it’s not fans will be very disappointed. Let’s just hope they readjust the script of this attempt to to make it a little truer to the games.
