The elevated classic Cloud Atlas
is going to be something else. Trust us. That’s why the fact that the movie now has a set release date is really, really exciting news…And it’s October 26, 2012.
Warner Bros. Pictures has just set the date for the historical sci-fi movie directed by Tom Tykwer (, , ) and the Wachowskis (, , ), based on the 2004 multiple story-lined novel by David Mitchell.
According to Latino Review, the President of Domestic Distribution said this:
Audiences who have seen an early screening of Cloud Atlas have been elated by its powerful and inspiring story, as well as its breathtaking visuals. An October release in North America is the perfect window to showcase this epic film.
We are excited on so many levels. Cloud Atlas tells six stories set in different times and places which become intricately linked to each other. It explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. In the novel, action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future. It’s great. And with the release of the movie 4 months away, there’s no excuse not to read the book first, right?
Personally I can’t wait for this release. But I’m also slightly ambivalent. The Wachowskis an be a very mixed bag. Obviously Cloud Atlas is on my list of favorite novels, but it never crossed my mind that anyone not even the movie-making Gods themselves would be bold enough or capable enough to take it on. I’ll be curious to see how it plays out… You?
