2010 sci-fi indie flick was judged by some to be captivating and Spielbergian by some, while others felt it was bland and boring. However you feel about the film, it did well enough off of its minuscule budget of $500,000 to warrant a sequel and this time round they’re doing things a little differently. Monsters: Dark Continent

will have a new director, Tom Green, and a new writer Jay Basu; both of whom have worked on no major projects outside of UK TV.

The location of the film will change too, instead of the US-Mexico border, the film will take place in Africa. As the choice of the subtitle, Dark Continent suggests, the film will take some inspiration from Joseph Conrad’s Heart Of Darkness. Bloody Disgusting has revealed that the film’s initial synopsis backs up that idea:

The tale is set in a walled city, as a “Heart of Darkness” story about two brothers finding each other in a world of monsters. The variety of aliens will differ in the next installment.

As of yet there’s no word as to which cast members will return for the project, if any, or whether we can expect a similar style of story telling from this installment as we saw in the first: everything is yet to be decided. If you’ve not already, definitely check out Monsters for a rough idea of what to expect from this upcoming sci-fi flick.
