For anyone not familiar with Marvel’s ‘One Shots’, the term comes from comic books that wrap up in one edition and don’t fit into a particular serial narrative. Marvel has adapted this idea and created a series of short films that will appear as extras on the Blu-ray edition of big Marvel movies.

The first, titled The Consultant, was released on the Thor Blu-ray and starred Clark Gregg and Robert Downey, Jr. as their Marvel characters. The second, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer, was released along with Captain America: The First Avenger. With The Avengers extended Blu-ray edition hitting shelves September 25th, it can only mean one thing: A new Marvel One Shot!

Whispers about Item 47 have been circulating for awhile, but now, thanks to EW we have all the details.

Lizzy Caplan (True Blood, Mean Girls) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) star as Claire and Benny, a down-on-their-luck couple who find themselves in the possession of a discarded alien gun from the finale to The Avengers. Shit proceeds to hit the fan and S.H.I.E.L.D Agents Maximiliano Hernndez (returning from Thor and The Avengers) and Titus Welliver (The Town) have to clean up the mess.

Marvel Studios co-president, Louis DEsposito, directed the short and explained how Item 47 will link in with the The Avengers.

The world is topsy-turvy now. Theres been an alien invasion, and things are crazy. So when this gun literally fell into their lap, this is a sign: Were going to rob a few banks, were going to buy a boat, were going to the Caribbean, and all our problems will be solved.

There’s already a snippet of a footage too:

I didn’t think it was possible for The Avengers Blu-ray to be any more appealing, but this fun addition is just another reason to pick it up come September.
