Head Hobbit Peter Jackson has announced in his usual creative way, via his Facebook page, that principal photography has wrapped on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

and , which was shot simultaneously.

The epic 266-day shoot has been well documented throughout, with Jackson providing unprecedented access to the set through his video blog, which is an absolute must watch for any movie nerd.

Jackson thanked his cast and crew for all their hard work and announced:

We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!

Even with the trailer, numerous stills, and the amount of behind-the-scenes footage, you can be sure that Jackson has something special up his sleeve for Comic-Con. For now, though, it’s time to hang up the prosthetic feet and celebrate!

We like to think this is what the wrap party will look like.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th, just in time for Christmas. The Hobbit: There and Back Again will follow in December 2013.
