Anthony Mackie, thanks to his terrific acting chops, has been showing up on fanboys’ wishlists for a while now. Which is why we’re excited to offer you up the news that star will most likely be assuming the role as The Falcon in the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier
.According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star is in final negotiations with Marvel Studios to join the cast as one of the most significant supporting characters in Marvel comic history.
The Falcon was one of Marvel’s first attempts at creating an African-American superhero, or at least the first major black comic book character who didn’t have the word ‘Black’ in his name. If this casting speculation is the real thing, it’s pretty exciting news. And we can’t wait not only is The Falcon a badass (he can control birds!), hearing that The Falcon is being dropped into the mix suggests that they’re going to be drawing from many different eras of the comic as they build the film. Great stuff.
Mackie is currently on-screen in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
, has the all-star hard-hitting crime movie Gangster Squad coming out in September, and has recently completed shooting Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain. A lot on his plate, then, but if he knows what is good for him, he’ll focus all of his energy on Captain America: The Winter Soldier from now on; this could be the movie that really establishes him as a bankable A-list star!
