The last time we caught up with agents Mulder and Scully was back in 2008, with the release of the questionable The X-Files: I Want to Believe. However, speaking to Collider recently, writer/producer Frank Spotnitz called it a ‘cultural crime’ that this is where the X-files legacy ended and that he considers the series unfinished. Following up this line of questioning, Collider sat down with Fox Mulder himself, David Duchovny, and he certainly shed some light on the possibility of X-Files 3
.I would love to do another film, or more. I think were all game for it. I know Im kind of perplexed that Fox isnt more [enthusiastic] Why not make a homegrown franchise that is excellent, and that has proven to be excellent and interesting?
So it seems that Fox is holding out! Given the underwhelming performance of the last X-Files movie it’s understandable that they are unsure, but Spotnitz is urging fans to show their support. When asked if he wants to do a third movie, he replied:
I absolutely do! I think everybody should write to 20th Century Fox.
So Spotnitz and Duchovny are in, and according to Duchovny, others are too. So, is Fox right to keep this project in limbo?
