Yesterday we got our first look at the highly anticipated Iron Man 3
trailer. Filled to the brim with a ton of content, there is a lot to absorb from the few minutes we have to work with.Well we’ve taken a large, heavy hammer, and smashed the trailer into a series of easily digestible shards, with a little help from io9. Sit back and enjoy the awesome.

Here’s where we begin; a battered Tony Stark lying in the snow tells us he’s had a rough go of it. Stark feels like he has a lot to apologize for, but man — something is clearly, terribly wrong, because the Tony Stark we know doesn’t apologize for anything.

Stark’s been working on ways to get closer to the Iron Man as a part of the Extremis story line, and with his gauntlet flying on to his body, it looks like he’s getting very close indeed. As the boundaries between man and suit blur, things get rough for Stark’s mental and physical health.

Don Cheadle‘s Rhodey Rhodes looks pretty concerned; is this related to a conversation with Tony that went wrong, or are more serious things related to national security afoot?

The silhouettes of people flashe-burned onto walls from The Avenger’s battle with the Chitauri might be more than a passing moment in the trailer; in fact, it’s highly likely that this may be one of the things that keeps Tony Stark awake at night. Heroes always wonder if they could have done more; for all of Stark’s bravado, the guy is pretty sensitive. These deaths must weight heavily on his heart.

That’s Prometheus star Guy Pearce, playing ruthless industrialist Aldrich Killian. He’s not the only one that we’re going to see go up against Tony Stark, but he may be one of the most driven of Iron man’s enemies to be put to film thus far. One of, being the operative words.

A suit of his own armor? Possessed by a life of it’s own (not unbelievable given the storyline), or being worn by an adversary? From the looks of things it’s out to get the one woman that Stark holds dear, Pepper Potts. If we know anything about Tony, it’s that he does not take kindly to the people he loves being attacked by his enemies. I wouldn’t want to be that suit of armor, or the person that may be in it.

Do we recognize the back of this head? Oh yes, I’m most certainly believe we do.

Is this another version of Tony’s armor? If you’re a fan of the comic book, you’ll know the answer, and if you know the answer, you additionally know that there is likely a monumental battle ahead related to this guy right here.

Tony has billions, is a genius, and has the hot girl to complete the trifecta of awesome the is his life…but that doesn’t make him untouchable, particularly from this next guy…

Ben Kingsley is the Mandarin, and he does not like Tony Stark. To be fair, he doesn’t like much of anything, but he approaches destroying Iron Man with a particular zeal that many of Stark’s adversaries simply don’t possess.

Battered, broken, and left with only a ruined suit after losing his home (and possibly Pepper), Tony does what he does best — never give up. If Tony Stark is still around, and has even the slightest of resources, it’s safe to say that Iron Man will be back in action, and ready to kick some ass.
Dark and Nolanesque, we’ve got a sneaking suspicion that this will be the best Iron Man yet.
Iron Man 3 opens May 3rd, 2013 in theaters nationwide.
