In fact, I thought one of the best parts of The Dark Knight RisesAnne Hathaway‘s Catwoman portrayal. I’ll admit it, Anne proved me totally wrong in my doubts about her inclusion in the trilogy finale.
Anyway, it’s while she’s been doing promotional work for Les Mis that she’s ended up chatting about TDKR again, as Simon Mayo on Radio Five Live questioned her as to the possibilities of a Catwoman Spin-off
There would always be interest in the wonderful character who I love so much that in a recent Q&A where I had to get up and talk about it, somebody asked me what it was like to say goodbye to her and I burst into tears… Which is just about the most un-Selina Kyle thing you can do.
While Hathaway would be keen to reprise the role, though, she knows nothing of any substance about it happening:
Nobody’s talked to me about it… I’m a big fan of the idea, but there’s nothing happening. It just kind of exists in my imagination.
Should Hathaway take home an Oscar for her performance in Les Miserables, then she may end up following the path trodden by Halle Berry, if Catwoman actually happens. After all, Berry won an Oscar, and then took on a Catwoman movie a couple of years later. Here’s hoping it’d turn out a lot better for Hathaway, though.
Although I’d be curious to see a Catwoman spinoff, perhaps involving Black Mask and Falcone, I think the splendid universe created by Nolan should be left sterile for now. Let’s allow TDKR to sink in for a little longer, before starting all over again.
